As many as 8 in 10 urban Indian women are now using internet for a range of activities, but many struggle with online harassment, abuse, trolling, and want action to be taken for making internet safer, according to a survey by LocalCircles. The survey revealed that 76 per cent of urban Indian women are using internet to stay in touch with family and friends, while 57 per cent are using it for finding information, and for entertainment. Nearly 83 per cent of those surveyed believe more actions need to be taken to make it safer for women to use the internet without being trolled, harassed, abused, facing extortion and fraud, LocalCircles release said detailing the findings of the survey. Real estate consultant Anarock has conducted a survey that suggests that 65 per cent women respondents prefer to invest in real estate, 20 per cent in stocks and only 8 per cent of them in gold. The sample size of the consumer survey was 5,500, out of which 50 per cent respondents were women. At least 65 per cent women respondents prefer to invest in real estate, followed by 20 per cent favouring the stock markets. A recent study on the level of awareness of medical termination of pregnancy has claimed that one of every three women it interviewed did not consider abortion as a health right or were unsure of it. The survey by the NGO Foundation for Reproductive Health Services India (FRHS India) also claimed 32 per cent of respondents were unaware of abortion as a legal right and that 95.5 per cent of Indian women were uninformed of the existence of the Medical Termination of Pregnancy (Amendment) Act, 2021. FRHS India, which provides clinical family planning services in the country, recently released the findings of its study on the level of awareness of the MTP Act and practices related to safe abortion. The study was conducted by the FRHS in Delhi, Maharashtra, Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh.
