Heavy rains lash most parts of Himachal

Heavy to very heavy rains lashed most parts of Himachal Pradesh today, with Keylong recording the lowest temperature at 10.7 degrees Celsius. Monsoon remained very active in the state during the last 24 hours, the Meteorological (MeT) department said. Solan, Bilaspur and Mandi, said Manmohan Singh districts received heavy to very heavy rains, the director of the Met department here said. Extremely heavy rainfall of 207 millimetres occurred at Gohar in Mandi district during the last 24 hours, he said. As per the data recorded today at 8.30 am, 100.4 mm rains occurred in Solan, followed by 64.7 mm in Sundernagar, 56.5 mm in Mandi, 52 mm in Kufri and 47.7 mm in Shimla, the director said. Kelyong in Lahaul and Spiti district remained the coldest place in the state as the lowest temperature at 10.7 degrees Celsius was recorded here during the last 24 hours. Heavy rains lash Delhi, waterlogging leads to traffic congestions

People in the national capital woke up to heavy rains and had to face waterlogging and traffic snarls at various places of the city for the second consecutive day today. The meteorological department warned of moderate to heavy rains throughout the day. The Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, registered 45.8 mm of rainfall between 5.30 pm yesterday and 8.30 am today, while the Palam observatory recorded 37.4 mm of precipitation during the same period. The Lodhi Road observatory received 51.8 mm of rains and the ridge area recorded 46.2 mm, while Ayangar recorded 41.9 mm of rainfall, an official of the MeT department said. Waterlogging on the streets affected traffic in many areas of the Delhi, while in Ghaziabad, may schools remained closed under the directions of the district magistrate on account of heavy rains and adverse weather conditions. However, schools in Delhi and Noida remained opened today.

Water level rises in Chambal river

Water level in Chambal river has risen alarmingly due to heavy rainfall in the eastern parts of Rajasthan, an official said. The water level was recorded 127 metre today and danger level mark is 129.79 metre, as per the Dholpur's flood control room. The normal level mark of the river is 119.30 metre. The Dholpur district administration has increased surveillance in the villages and hamlets situated on the banks the river. Dholpur Collector Nannu Mal Pahadia today surveyed the vulnerable areas falling in Chambal river and directed officials to remain alert to control the situation. Dholpur recorded 352 mm rainfall today followed by 331 mm in Sepau, 323 mm in Badi, 412 mm in Basedi, 327 mm in Rajakheda and 361 mm in Sarmathura, flood control room said. Bharatpur and Rajakhera each recorded 14 cm rainfall followed by 13 cm in Chhabra, 11 cm in Chhipabarod, 9 cm in Bhusawar in the last 24 hours. Heavy rains predicted in next 24 hours

Moderate-to-heavy rainfall lashed most parts of Himachal Pradesh today, with the local meteorological office warning of heavy rain in several parts of the state in the next 24 hours. Residents may get relief from heavy rain for a couple of days after that as the monsoon will remain less active for the next two-three days, said Manmohan Singh, the director of the Meteorological Centre, Shimla. As per the data recorded this evening, the highest rainfall was recorded in Solan district at 79 millimetres from 8.30am-5.30 pm. Kasol in Kullu district witnessed 48-mm rain, followed by Shimla (47 mm), Mandi (46.4 mm), Kufri in Shimla district (43 mm) and Bilaspur (37 mm). Chamba was the hottest place with the highest temperature at 30.2 degrees Celsius today. Incessant rain throws life out of gear in Kolkata

Normal life was affected in the metropolis today owing to incessant rain, even as the Met department forecast more downpour during the next three days, owing to an active monsoon. Several arterial roads in the city, including Central Avenue, IT hub in Salt Lake, Rajarhat-New Town and Dum Dum were waterlogged in the morning, causing inconvenience to office-goers and students. Bad road conditions led to heavy traffic in many parts, including Eastern Metropolitan Bypass and Salt Lake Bypass in the east and Behala in the west. The Met department has forecast moderate rain, with heavy downpour at one or two places in West Bengal till Sunday morning. Heavy rains lash Delhi, traffic affected due to waterlogging

Heavy rains lashed the national capital causing waterlogging and traffic snarls at various places in the city today. The maximum temperature settled at 28.7 degrees Celsius, six notches below the season's average while the minimum was recorded at 26.0 degrees Celsius, a notch below the normal, said a Met department official. The Safdarjung observatory, recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, recorded 4.6 mm rainfall till 8.30 am and 14.8 mm rainfall till 5.30 pm. The rainfall recorded by Palam observatory was 9.3 mm till 8.30 am. It recorded 10.2 mm rains between 8.30 am and 5.30 pm. The Lodhi Road observatory received 5.3 mm rainfall and the ridge area recorded 8.8 mm rainfall while Ayangar recorded traces of rainfall till 8.30 am. Moderate to heavy rainfall witnessed in UP

Moderate to heavy rainfall and thundershowers were reported from most places in Uttar Pradesh. According to the MET office, Orai witnessed 21 cm of rainfall, Agra and Mathura 15 cm each, Jalaun 14 cm, Agra 13 cm and Bareilly 11 cm. Akbarpur (Kanpur Dehat), Hamirpur CWC and Mahrari (Lalitpur) recorded 10 cm of rains each, Shahganj (Jaunpur), Aurriya, Baghpat, Maudaha (Hamirpur) and Khairagarh (Agra) 9 cm each. The highest maximum temperature in the state was 34.6 degrees Celsius in Fatehgarh and the lowest minimum temperature was 16 degrees Celsius in Orai. The MET department has forecast rain/thundershowers at most places in eastern and western Uttar Pradesh today and tomorrow.

Incessant rain affected normal life in the metropolis and adjoining districts today, as the Met department forecast continuous downpour till tomorrow morning. Continuous rain and waterlogging at different places in the city caused traffic snarls during morning rush hours. The Met department has forecast "continuous rainfall over the districts of Gangetic West Bengal with one or two spells of heavy shower in coastal districts, including Kolkata for next 24 hours." Keylong coldest as rain lashes several parts of Himachal

Keylong in Lahaul and Spiti district was the coldest place in Himachal today after several parts of the state saw continued rains in the last 24 hours, the Meteorological department said. As per data recorded this morning, the highest rainfall was recorded in Paonta Sahib of Sirmaur district at 139.4 millimetres, Met director Manmohan Singh said. Dharamshala witnessed 134.4 mm rain, followed by Kangra with 133 mm, Palampur with 120 mm and Nahan experienced 96.3 mm rain during the last 24 hours, he added. Keylong recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 12.8 degrees Celsius, Singh said. Light rains occur in parts of Delhi

Light rains today occurred in parts of the national capital, which experienced a humid day, even as the maximum temperature settled below the normal levels. The maximum temperature settled at 32.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the season's average, while the minimum was recorded at 28 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal, said a Meteorological (MeT) department official. The city received traces of rainfall between 8.30 AM and 5.30 PM. The humidity oscillated between 88 and 56 per cent. The Met office has forecast overcast skies, along with the possibility of few spells of light to moderate rains, for tomorrow. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to hover at 32 and 26 degrees Celsius respectively," the weatherman said. Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 36.7 degrees Celsius and the minimum settled at 28.2 degrees Celsius.

2 killed in rain-related incidents in Rajasthan

Two people, including a woman, died in rain-related incidents in Rajasthan's Sikar district, police said today. A woman died in Mawanda village in Neem Ka Thana town after she got trapped under the debris of a dilapidated house that collapsed due to heavy rain, they said. Her two children were rescued safely and were admitted to a hospital. In another incident, a man drowned in an overflowing water tank in Neem Ka Thana town. In last 24 hours, Jaipur recorded 85.4 mm of rainfall followed by 59.2 mm in Sikar, 41.2mm in Pilani, 37 mm in Swai Madhopur, 36.5 mm in Chittorgarh, 14 mm in Bhilwara, 9.4 mm in Banasthali, 5 mm in Bundi, 3.4 mm in Kota, 2.1 mm in Ajmer and 1 mm in Mount Abu. The MeT Department here has predicted heavy rainfall in eastern parts of the state and light to moderate rainfall in western parts of Rajasthan.
