Rains in eastern parts of UP; Fategarh hottest at 35.1 deg C
The eastern part of Uttar Pradesh received rains till 8.30 am today even as Fategarh was the hottest in the state recording a high of 35.1 degrees Celsius, the meteorological department said. The South West Monsoon has been normal over East Uttar Pradesh. Mirzapur and Haidergarh in Barabanki district each received 5 cm of rainfall followed by Jhansi 4 cm, Bikapur in Faizabad, Varanasi, Sirauli, Gauspur in Barabanki, Amroha and Muzaffarnagar each received 3 cm rainfall, an MeT official said. Night temperatures were above normal in Jhansi and Agra divisions and were normal in the remaining divisions of the state. The weatherman has forecast rain and thundershower at most places in the state tomorrow.

Heavy rains lashed several parts of Himachal Pradesh, triggering landslides, blocking roads and disrupting electricity supply even as the region received deficit rains during the current monsoon season. Parts of Sirmaur district were lashed by heavy rains and about 20 roads, including some state highways, were closed due to landslides and hundreds of vehicles were stranded on either side of road blocks. A car was washed away in a major landslide on the Dadahu-Koti-Deman road, while over four dozen roads, mostly in Sirmaur and Shimla distrits, were closed due to hill slips and heaps of debris on the roads. "Efforts are on to clear the roads, but fresh landslides are occurring every day," said Public Works Department officials. Heavy rains lashed parts of the national capital today with the minimum temperature settling at a pleasant 26 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average. The Met office has forecast there would be generally cloudy sky with few spells of light and moderate rains tomorrow while one or two intense spells are also expected. According to the MeT department, the maximum temperature today was recorded at 34.4 degrees Celsius, which is normal for this time of the year. The humidity level oscillated between 83 per cent 97 per cent, a MeT department official said. The Safdarjung observatory, recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, recorded 7.9 mm rainfall till 8.30 AM, while between 8.30 AM to 5.30 PM, it received 17.6 mm rainfall. Temperatures hover below normal limits in Haryana
The maximum temperatures hovered below normal limits at most places in Haryana today. Ambala recorded a high of 32.9 degrees Celsius, one notch below normal while Karnal's maximum temperature settled at 28 degrees Celsius, six degrees below normal limits. Hisar registered a maximum temperature of 31.1 degrees Celsius while Bhiwani recorded a high of 31.6 degrees Celsius. Narnaul recorded a maximum temperature of 28.8 degrees Celsius. UT Chandigarh, the joint capital of Haryana and Punjab, recorded a maximum temperature of 33.1 degrees Celsius, according to the MeT Department here. In Punjab, Amritsar registered a high of 33.4 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximum temperatures of 32.2 degrees Celsius and 31.6 degrees Celsius, respectively. According to a forecast by the MeT Department here, rains/thundershowers are likely at many places in Haryana and Punjab over the next two days.

Deficient rain in 1/4th of country: IMD data
With the four-month rainy season almost half over, the rainfall deficiency in the eastern part of India, especially in Bihar and Jharkhand, has crossed the 40 per cent mark, while a quarter of the country has received deficient rainfall, the India Meteorological Department data shows. Bihar has recorded the highest monsoon deficiency of 48 per cent, while east Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand have recorded 46 and 42 per cent respectively. The overall monsoon deficiency in the country has, however, dipped to three per cent. The overall deficiency in east and northeast India is 34 per cent, the highest in the country in comparison to the other meteorological divisions of the country. Manali coldest as rains lash several parts of HP
Rains continued to lash several parts of Himachal Pradesh today, with Manali becoming the coldest place in the state in the last 24 hours. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded at 13.4 degrees Celsius in Manali, followed by 13.6 degrees Celsius in Kufri, 13.7 degrees Celsius in Keylong, 15.2 degrees Celsius in Kalpa, 16.4 degrees Celsius in Dalhousie, MeT Department director Manmohan Singh said. Palampur recorded 77 mm of rainfall, 63.4 mm in Dharamshala, 47.1 mm in Nahan, 39 mm in Kangra, 37.4 mm in Manali, 19 mm in Kufri and 15.3 mm in Shimla, he said. Una recorded a high of 35.2 degrees Celsius while Hamirpur recorded a maximum temperature of 33.5 degrees Celsius, followed by 32.3 degrees Celsius in Bilaspur, 32.1 degrees Celsius in Kangra, 32 degrees Celsius in Sundernagar and Bhuntar and 31.8 degrees Celsius in Chamba, Singh said. Searing heat claims 3 lives in Assam
Three persons have lost their lives in Assam with temperatures soaring seven degrees above normal in the state, official sources said today. After the floods that claimed 34 lives and affected lakhs of people early this month, the state is now experiencing blazing heat, recording an average of 39 degrees Celsius. According to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) here, the temperatures were seeing a rise as the easterly and north-easterly winds were not carrying any moisture from the Bay of Bengal. The abnormal heat also continued today although no deaths were reported. Yesterday, A policeman, Bhadra Singh Narzary (42), complained of uneasiness and collapsed in Kokrajhar town while on duty. Narzary was rushed to a hospital where he was declared "brought dead", official sources said. Heavy rain lashed parts of the national capital region today, bringing down maximum temperature. The Meteorological department has forecast overcast skies and light to moderate rain tomorrow. In the last 24 hours, the city received 24.2 mm rain till 8.30 am. Further, 5 mm rain was recorded till 5.30 pm, the Met department said. Rains lashed parts of Punjab and Haryana today, bringing relief to people from humid weather conditions. Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana, received 16.4 mm rainfall, with the showers inundating roads and low-lying areas and causing traffic jams at various places. The city recorded a maximum temperature of 34.7 degree Celsius, a meteorological department report said. In Punjab, Amritsar recorded a high of 36.2 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature in Ludhiana and Patiala settled at 35.2 and 34.5 degrees Celsius respectively. Ludhiana recorded 17 mm rainfall, while Patiala received 1 mm rainfall. In the neighbouring state of Haryana, Ambala and Bhiwani recorded maximum temperatures of 35.5 and 33.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Patna maximum temperature 41.6 degree Celsius
Patna today registered a maximum temperature of 41.6 degree Celsius, the highest maximum temperature in the month of July in last 36-years. The Met office said the maximum temperature of Patna today was 41.6 degree Celsius, which was nine degrees above normal. The state capital had earlier registered 41.2 degree Celsius as maximum temperature on July 6, 1982, as per India Meteorological Department's record available on its official website. Heavy to moderate rainfall in parts of Rajasthan
Many places in Rajasthan received heavy to moderate rains since yesterday, with Kotri in Bhilwara being the wettest recording 15 cm of rainfall, a meteorological department official said. Kumher in Bharatpur received 13 cm of rains, followed by Gangrar and Mandalgarh each 11 cm, Jhalarapatan 10 cm, Kota, Mount Abu, Bhim, Dungarpur and Bhilwara 9 cm each. Various other places recorded one to 8 cm rainfall since yesterday. Today, Kota recorded 3.7 mm of rains, followed by Churu 2.2mm, Pilani 1.1 mm and Barmer 0.3 mm. The weatherman has predicted heavy rainfall in most of the places of east Rajasthan and light to moderate rainfall at a few places in western parts of the state.
