Light rainfall brings mercury down in Delhi

Delhiites woke up to a pleasant Sunday morning after light rains lashed several parts of the city, with the minimum temperature settling at 26 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average. The pleasant conditions continued due to sporadic rainfall in various parts of the national capital later in the day, bringing the maximum temperature to 28 degrees Celsius, six notches below the season's average. According to the Meteorological (MeT) department, till 5.30 PM there was 35.9 mm of rainfall in the city. This also led to waterlogging in several parts of the national capital. The maximum and minimum humidity was recorded at 100 per cent and 84 per cent, respectively. For tomorrow, the Met department has forecast generally cloudy sky with moderate rains or thundershowers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be 29 degrees Celsius and 25 degrees Celsius, respectively. More rains forecast for Odisha over next 48 hours

Rain-soaked Odisha is likely to be lashed by more showers over the next two days with the possibility of heavy downpour in some places, the Met office said Sunday. Heavy rainfall is likely to occur in some places in Sundargarh, Sambalpur, Jharsuguda, Deogarh, Keonjhar, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Jajpur, Kendrapara Balangir and Dhenkanal districts in the next 24 hours, the Meteorological Centre here said. Rain and thundershower are likely to occur at many places over north Odisha and at a few places over southern region of the state till Tuesday, it said. Most parts of the state have been battered by widespread rainfall for over a month owing to the formation of a series of low pressure in the region. Torrential rain causes severe waterlogging in Delhi

The national capital on Sunday woke up to heavy downpour causing severe waterlogging in several areas.Delhi and adjoining areas have been experiencing rainfall for the past few days, leading to severe waterlogging and traffic jam. While the civic authorities continued to blame each other over poor drainage facilities, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has said that rains would continue for the next two days.Furthermore, the IMD issued heavy rainfall warnings for isolated pockets in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi and adjoining areas, and said that light to moderate rainfall would be witnessed, occasionally accompanied by thundershowers.On Saturday, around 30 people were stranded in the waterlogged area of Yamuna Bazar, after the bus they were travelling in broke down on the Ring Road. Rain lashes Himachal Pradesh

Widespread rains occurred at many places in Himachal Pradesh Saturday, leading to a drop in temperatures, according to local MeT office. Manali recorded a low of 13.2 degrees Celsius following rainfall, the weatherman said. Till 8.30 am Sunday, Palampur had recorded 64.6 mm of rainfall, Una 34 mm, Sundernagar 20.5 mm, Mandi 13.1 mm and Shimla 9.4 mm.

Light rains in city bring mercury down

Delhiites woke up to a pleasant Sunday morning after light rains lashed several parts of the city with the minimum temperature settling at 26 degrees Celsius, a notch above the season's average. The weatherman has predicted more rains in the national capital later in the day. The Safdarjung observatory, the recording of which is considered official for the city, recorded 24.6 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. The Palam observatory has received 19.9 mm rainfall during the same period. "The skies will remain cloudy. Rain is expected in several areas of the city later in the day," said an official of the meteorological department. The humidity level recorded at 8.30 am was 95 per cent. The official said the maximum temperature is expected to hover around 30 degrees Celsius. Medicines worth Rs 1.7 cr sent to flood-ravaged Kerala: HP minister

The Himachal Pradesh Drugs Manufacturing Association with support of the state drug control administration has sent two trucks of medicines worth Rs 1.7 crore to help Keral flood victims, Health Minister Vipin Singh Parmar said here on Saturday. The state government has already sent Rs 5 crore aid for the flood-ravaged southern state. As many as 483 people have lost lives in Kerala since the onset of the monsoon on May 28 and 14 were still missing. Parmar said the medicines have been provided according to the requirement of the Kerala government, and includes antibiotics, painkillers, drugs to cure diarrhea, ORS, injections, needles, syringes and glucose and others. He said the association would send more medicines within a few days.

Rain, thundershowers likely in HP

Rain and thundershowers may occur at many places in Himachal Pradesh in the next two-three days, the MeT Department said Saturday. Light to moderate rains were recorded in Mandi, Kangra, Kullu, Hamirpur, Bilaspur, Chamba and Sirmaur. Heavy rainfall was recorded at Gohar (74 mm) in Mandi district and Palampur (73 mm) in Kangra district. Meanwhile, the lowest temperature was recorded in Keylong of Lahaul and Spiti district at 12.2 degrees Celsius whereas the highest temperature in the state was recorded in Sundernagar at 31.9 degrees Celsius.

Temperature rises in Delhi, humid day

The mercury rose in the national capital by a few notches today even as high humidity brought more discomfort to city residents. The minimum temperature settled at 28 degrees Celsius while the relative humidity level at 8.30 am was recorded at 81 per cent, according to the MeT Department. The city had registered a low of 26.3 degrees Celsius yesterday. However, the weatherman has predicted light rains in several parts of the city later in the day. A MeT official said no rainfall has been recorded in the last 24 hours, till 8:30 am today. "The skies will remain generally cloudy. There is possibility of light rain later in the day. The maximum temperature is expected to settle at 35 degrees Celsius," the official said. The maximum and minimum temperatures tomorrow are likely to settle at 33 and 27 degrees Celsius respectively.

In Karnataka, polling has begun for 102 urban local bodies across the state.The voting which started at 7 this morning will end at 5 PM.In the wake of elections, security has been heightened across the state. Around 40,000 security personnel have been deployed in cities and towns.Polling is currently being held in 2,529 wards spread over 29 city municipalities, 53 town municipalities and 23 town panchayats and in 135 wards of three city corporations.Though the civic election was earlier scheduled to be held in 105 Urban Local Bodies, it has been postponed in three of them -- Somwarpet, Virajpet and Kushalnagar -- due to onset of heavy rains leading to flash floods in Kodagu district, earlier this month.The counting of votes will take place on September 3.

The maximum temperatures hovered close to normal levels in most parts of Punjab and Haryana today. UT Chandigarh, the joint capital of both states, registered its maximum temperature at 33.2 degrees Celsius, according to the MeT Department here. Among other places in Haryana, Ambala, Karnal and Narnaul recorded their maximum temperatures at 33.7, 34 and 35 degrees Celsius, respectively. Hisar recorded a high of 38.9 degrees Celsius, up three notches against normal limits. In Punjab, Amritsar's maximum temperature settled at 35.6 degrees Celsius while Ludhiana and Patiala recorded maximum temperatures at 33.8 and 35.1 degrees Celsius, respectively.

Maximum temperatures stay close to normal levels in Punjab, Haryana

The maximum temperatures hovered around normal levels in most parts of Punjab and Haryana today even as humid weather conditions prevailed in both states. UT Chandigarh, the joint capital of both states, registered its maximum temperature at 33.2 degrees Celsius, according to the MeT Department here. Among other places in Haryana, Ambala, Bhiwani and Hisar recorded their maximum temperatures at 33.6, 32.7 and 35.9 degrees Celsius, respectively. Rains continue to lash Rajasthan, 1 killed

One person died in the Bharatpur district of Rajasthan as rains continued to lash parts of the state in last 24 hours, officials said today. The deceased was identified as Har Dayal (48). He had gone to feed cattle when lightning struck him, the police said. The body was handed over to his family members after post-mortem, Station House Officer at Ucchain Police Station Vishambhar Kumar said. According to the Met Department, Pilani recorded 107 mm rainfall today, followed by 86 mm in Bharatpur, 18.4 mm in Jaipur, 9.7 mm in Ajmer, 8.6 mm in Churu, 2.8 mm in Bhilwara and 0.7 mm in Dabok. In last 24 hours, Sirohi and Abu Road received 8 cm rainfall, followed by 7 cm each in Jagpura of Banswara and Nithua of Dungarpur. Various other places recorded 1 to 6 cm rainfall. The weatherman has predicted heavy rainfall in Alwar, Bharatpur, Dausa, Dholpur, Kota, Karauli, Swai Madhopur and Tonk district in next 24 hours.

Heavy rains lashed several parts of the national capital today, causing traffic snarls in a few areas. "The maximum temperature was recorded at 31.9 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal while the minimum temperature settled at 26.3 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year," a MeT Department official said. The humidity levels oscillated between 94 and 75 per cent. The Palam observatory received 17.7 mm rainfall while the Safdarjugn observatory recorded 1.4 mm rainfall. Lodhi road recorded 0.5 mm of rainfall and the Aya Nagar observatory registered 0.4 mm of rainfall. The weatherman has predicted heavy rains tomorrow towards the evening while the morning is expected to be generally cloudy. Yesterday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 31.8 degrees Celsius, three notches above normal while the minimum temperature was registered at 26 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year.
