Fresh snowfall in Himachal, mercury dips in state

Mercury plummeted in Himachal Pradesh after fresh snowfall in high reaches of Lahaul and Spiti, Kinnaur, Chamba, Shimla and Kullu districts and rain in some parts of the state on Wednesday night, the Meteorological department said. The minimum temperature in Keylong, Manali, Kalpa and Kufri has dropped below freezing point after the fresh snowfall. Tourist destination Manali in Kullu district received first snowfall of the season. Manali received 4 cm snowfall, Director of MeT centre Shimla Manmohan Singh said. Similarly tourist attraction Khara Pathar in Jubbal Kotkhai tehsil of Shimla district received the first snowfall of the season. Pangi and Kalpa in Kinnaur district also received fresh snowfall. Similarly high reaches of Chamba and tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti also received fresh snowfall. Exact data of snowfall in these areas was not available. Rain lashes Delhi

Rains lashed different parts of Delhi on Wednesday with the minimum temperature settling at four notches above normal. "The minimum temperature was recorded at 17.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal, while the maximum temperature settled at 28.5 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year," a Meteorological (MeT) official said. The humidity levels oscillated between 94 and 47 per cent. Rains lashed different parts of Delhi, including central and eastern areas. Delhiites woke up to overcast skies in the morning following overnight rains in several parts of the city. However, no rainfall was recorded during the day. The weatherman has forecast cloudy skies for Thursday with the possibility of mist in the morning. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 27 and 15 degrees Celsius," the official added. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Tuesday were 29.4 and 14.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

Light rains in west UP

Weather remained dry in eastern Uttar Pradesh with light rains at isolated places in western part of the state, the Meteorological Department said Wednesday. The day temperatures on Tuesday appreciably fell in Moradabad and Meerut divisions, while the night temperatures rose in Lucknow, Bareilly and Agra, it said. Kanpur City was the coldest with 10.6 degrees Celsius, the Met office said. The weatherman has forecast dry weather in the state over the next two days.

Delhi wakes up to overcast skies

Delhiites woke up to overcast skies on Wednesday following overnight rains in several parts of the city. The minimum temperature settled at 17.6 degrees Celsius, four notches above the season's average while the humidity was recorded at 90 per cent at 8.30 AM, said a Met department official. The Safadrjung observatory, the recording of which is considered the official figure for the city, received 7 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours ending at 8.30 AM, the official said. Areas under Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge and Ayanagar received 3.1mm, 4.9 mm, 3.4 mm and 4.7 mm rains during the same period. The Met office has forecast cloudy skies for the rest of day. "The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 28 degrees," the weatherman said. The maximum and minimum temperatures recorded on Tuesday were 29.4 and 14.2 degrees Celsius respectively.

Cyclone 'Gaja' likely to cross coast between Pamban and Cuddalore on Nov 15

Cyclonic storm 'Gaja' has moved westwards and was now located at about 740 km east-northeast of the city and expected to cross coastal Tamil Nadu in the afternoon of November 15, the India Meteorological Department said Tuesday. A bulletin from the department said 'Gaja' was likely to move west-southwestwards and intensify further into a severe cyclonic storm during the next 24 hours. "While moving west-southwestwards, it is likely to weaken gradually and cross Tamil Nadu coast between Pamban and Cuddalore as a cyclonic storm in the afternoon of November 15," the bulletin said. Owing to this, heavy rainfall may occur in north coastal Tamil Nadu and adjoining districts of south coastal Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh from the evening of November 14, it said. Winds may reach a speed of 70-80 kmph and touch 90 kmph over west-central and adjoining east-central and south Bay of Bengal, the bulletin said. Smoggy morning in Delhi, light showers recorded: MeT

Delhiites woke up to a smoggy morning on Tuesday with light rainfall in parts of the city, MeT department said. The minimum temperature in Delhi-NCR settled at 14 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature is expected to reach 30 degrees Celsius. The MeT Department has predicted a cloudy sky with light rains across the city through the day. Light rainfall was recorded in central and eastern parts of the national capital even as smog engulfed it, a MeT department official said. The relative humidity was recorded at 86 per cent, he said. On Monday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 30.2 and 14.2 degrees Celsius respectively.
