Weather remained dry in Uttar Pradesh with shallow fog at isolated places in the eastern part of the state, the meteorological department said Monday. The day temperatures on Sunday was below normal in Gorakhpur, Varanasi, Faizabad, Bareilly, Jhansi and Meerut divisions, it said. The lowest minimum temperature of 8.5 degree Celsius was recorded at Muzzafarnagar, said the Met office. It forecast dry weather in the state over the next two days.
As the higher reaches of Jammu and Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall, the Mughal road, connecting the twin districts of Poonch and Rajouri in Jammu region with south Kashmir's Shopian district, was closed for traffic Monday as a precautionary measure, officials said. Light snowfall was reported from various high-altitude areas, including Peer Ki Gali along the Mughal road, since Sunday night, the officials said. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Sunday said that cyclonic storm 'Gaja' is likely to intensify further into a 'severe cyclonic storm' in next 24 hours."The deep depression over Southeast and adjoining Central Bay of Bengal moved west-northwestwards with a speed of 12 kmph during the past six hours, intensified into a cyclonic storm 'Gaja' and lay centred over East-central and adjoining West central and Southeast Bay of Bengal," said IMD in a statement.The IMD has also predicted that the cyclonic storm is likely to move west-northwestwards during next 36 hours and west-southwestwards towards north Tamil Nadu, south Andhra Pradesh during the subsequent 48 hours. "Moving west-southwestwards it is likely to weaken," the weather department added.Earlier in the day, Tamil Nadu Fisheries Department had asked fishermen to not go fishing in the south-east of the Bay of Bengal on Monday as a stormy weather has been predicted.

Isolated places in Tamil Nadu's southern districts will receive heavy rainfall in the next 24 hours due to a low pressure over central parts of Andaman Sea that is likely to develop into a cyclone, the regional meterological department Friday said. However, Chennai along with other northern districts are unlikely to be affected by the phenomenon. In a release, the weather department said the low pressure area over Gulf of Thailand and adjoining Malay peninsula now lies over central parts of Andaman sea and neighborhood with an associated cyclonic circulation. "It is very likely to become more marked during next 24 hours, move west-northwestwards and concentrate into a depression during subsequent 24 hours and cyclone thereafter," it said.
