Cold, foggy Monday morning in Delhi

It was a cold and foggy morning in the city on Monday with the minimum temperature settling at 7.6 degrees Celsius, one degree below the season's average. The MeT department predicted mainly clear skies which could turn partly cloudy later on the day. The maximum temperature is expected to hover around 24 degrees celsius. Relative humidity was 97 percent at 8.30 AM, said a MeT official. On Saturday, the minimum temperature was 8.2 degrees Celsius while the maximum was 24.8 degrees Celsius.

Snowfall, rain likely in Himachal Pradesh on Monday, Tuesday

Rain and snowfall are very likely in isolated places of Himachal Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday due to western disturbances, the Meteorological department said on Sunday. Western disturbance presently lies as a cyclonic circulation over east Afghanistan and its neighbourhood, MeT, Shimla, Director Manmohan Singh said. Under its influence, isolated to scattered rainfall and snowfall may occur in Himachal Pradesh on Monday and Tuesday, he said.

Cold day in Delhi, minimum temperature at 8.2 deg C

It was a cold day in the national capital Sunday with the minimum temperature settling at 8.2 degrees Celsius, one notch below the normal for this time of the year. According to the Meteorological (MeT) department, the maximum temperature was recorded at 24.8 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal. The humidity oscillated between 97 and 41 per cent. The Met office has forecast clear skies in the morning for Monday with the possibility of partially cloudy skies in the evening and at night. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover around 24 and 8 degrees Celsius respectively," the weatherman said. On Saturday, Delhi recorded the season's lowest temperature at 7.6 degrees Celsius.

Rain, snow expected in Kashmir till Tuesday

The meteorological department has forecast light-to-moderate rainfall or snow at most places across the Kashmir valley from Sunday till Tuesday. "A western disturbance is approaching Jammu and Kashmir, under the influence of which light-to-moderate rain/snow will occur at many places and snow at few places over the Ladakh region from the evening of Sunday to Tuesday, especially on Monday," a Met department official said. He said the higher reaches of the state were most likely to receive moderate-to-heavy rainfall or snow during this period. "This may lead to disruption of surface transportation mainly on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway, Zojila pass on the Srinagar-Leh highway and Mughal Road," the official said. The official said the night temperature in Srinagar, settled at a low of minus 0.4 degrees Celsius on Saturday night, up from the minus 1.2 degrees Celsius the previous night. Mercury rises across Kashmir, slight relief from cold conditions

The mercury across Kashmir rose on Friday night providing some relief to residents from cold conditions, even as all weather stations in the valley and Ladakh region continued to record sub-night zero temperature. There was improvement in the weather as the night temperature increased considerably across the valley last night owing to overcast conditions, a MET department official said. He, however, said the mercury continued to settle below the freezing point across Kashmir division, including Ladakh region. The official said the night temperature in Srinagar city, the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir, settled at a low of minus 1.2 degrees Celsius last night up over two degrees from the previous night's minus 4.0 degrees Celsius. At 7.6 deg C, Delhi records lowest temperature for season

Delhiites Saturday woke up to a cold morning with the minimum temperature dipping to 7.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest for the season so far. The humidity level was recorded at 95 per cent at 8.30 AM, a Met department official said. Visibility was recorded at 1000 metres at 8.30 AM. The Met office has forecast clear skies for the day ahead and haze and smoke towards the afternoon. "The maximum temperature is likely to settle at 24 degrees Celsius," the weatherman said. Snowfall, rain likely in Himachal from Sunday

The Western disturbance is likely to affect Himachal Pradesh from Sunday onwards, the Meteorological department said, predicting snowfall in the higher reaches of the state and rain at isolated places in mid hills and plains. Snowfall may occur in the higher reaches and isolated rain may take place over mid hills and plains of the state on December 9, local MeT centre director Manmohan Singh said. The rainfall activity will increase on December 10 and 11, he added.

Mercury continues to dip in several parts of Punjab, Haryana

Several parts of Punjab and Haryana braved the cold weather on Friday with minimum temperatures hovering below normal. In Punjab, Halwara was coldest at 5.4 degrees Celsius, while Amritsar recorded 6 degrees Celsius. Ludhiana and Patiala recorded identical lows of 8.7 degrees, a meteorological department official said. According to the weather report, Pathankot (6.7 degrees), Adampur (5.9 degrees), Bathinda (5.6 degrees), Faridkot (5.6 degrees) and Gurdaspur (7.5 degrees) reeled under the chill as minimum temperatures continued to be below normal. Similarly, in Haryana, Narnaul recorded the coldest temperatures at 6.5 degrees Celsius. Ambala recorded 7.8 degrees Celsius, followed by Hisar (7.8 C) and Karnal at 7 degrees.

After brief respite, mercury dips again in Kashmir

A day after Kashmir got some respite from the cold, the minimum temperatures in the valley dipped again on Thursday night, the meteorological office here said. Srinagar experienced its coldest night of the season with a minimum temperature of minus 4 degrees Celsius, two notches lower that previous night's minus 2.6 degrees Celsius, a MeT department official said on Friday. Himachal Pradesh reels under intense cold, Lahaul-Spiti hits minus 10 deg C

Himachal Pradesh is reeling under intense cold following a fresh spell of snowfall with temperatures in tribal Lahaul and Spiti district hitting a low of nearly minus 10 degree Celsius, the Meteorological Department said. The mercury in Kinnaur district and tourist destination Manali has also dropped below the freezing point. Keylong, the administrative headquarters of Lahaul and Spiti district, has recorded the lowest temperature in the state at minus 9.9 degree Celsius between 5.30 pm Thursday and 8.30 am Friday, said Shimla Meteorological Department's director Manmohan Singh. Fresh snowfall in higher reaches intensifies cold wave in HP

Fresh snowfall in high reaches of Himachal Pradesh's Lahaul-Spiti, Kinnaur and Kullu districts has intensified ongoing cold wave in the state, the local meteorological centre said Thursday. Following fresh snowfall, Rohtang Pass has been closed for vehicular movement, an official of the Lahaul-Spiti district said. About 10 cm snowfall was recorded in Rohtang Pass, 4 cm in Koksar, Sisu and Gondola while Kalpa received 2 cm snowfall. With minus 4.9 degrees Celsius, Keylong recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the state, the Met department said, adding that in Kalpa, minus 0.6 degrees Celsius minimum temperature was recorded.
