Min temp drops to 8.4 deg C in Delhi, lowest for the season so far

The minimum temperature dropped further on Wednesday to 8.4 degrees Celsius, a notch below the season's average. While the minimum temperature was the lowest for the season, the maximum temperature came down to 25 degrees Celsius, normal for this time of the year, said a Meteorological (MeT) department official. The humidity oscillated between 97 and 40 per cent. The MeT office has forecast mainly clear skies with the possibility of shallow fog in the morning for Thursday. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 26 and 8 degrees Celsius respectively," the weatherman said. On Tuesday, the minimum temperature stood at 8.6 degrees Celsius while the maximum was recorded at 26 degrees Celsius.

Kashmir Valley records sub-zero temp on Tuesday night

Cold wave conditions continued in the Kashmir Valley as all weather stations recorded sub-zero temperature Tuesday night. There was slight relief in the night temperature but mercury still settled at minus 3.0 degrees Celsius in Srinagar city, a MeT Department official said. Srinagar had recorded its lowest night temperature in 24 hours as the mercury dipped to minus 3.2 degrees Celsius, the official said. The valley and Ladakh region also recorded sub-zero night temperature Tuesday night. Pahalgam health resort, which serves as one of the base camps for the annual Amarnath Yatra in south Kashmir, registered a low of minus 5.1 degrees Celsius and was recorded as the coldest place in the valley, the official said. The famous ski-resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir recorded the minimum of minus 4.0 degrees Celsius same as Monday night, he said. It was the season's coldest day in the national capital with the minimum temperature settling at 8.4 degrees Celsius Wednesday, a notch below the season's average. Delhiites woke up to a chill in the air as mercury dipped a bit further from its reading on Tuesday. However, there was high level of humidity in the morning, recorded at 95 per cent. The MeT office has forecast mainly clear skies with mist in the morning for Thursday. "The maximum temperature is likely to hover at 27 degrees Celsius later in the day," a MeT Department official said. Delhi recorded season's coldest day on Monday with the minimum temperature settling at 8.6 degrees Celsius while the maximum temperature was recorded at 28.1 degrees Celsius. Mercury drops further in Kashmir, Srinagar records coldest night of season

The mercury continued its downward spiral in Kashmir on Tuesday as the minimum temperature settled several degrees below the freezing point at most places in the valley and Ladakh region, while Srinagar experienced the coldest night of the season so far. The summer capital Srinagar recorded the minimum temperature of minus 3.2 degrees Celsius last night, an official of the Meteorological Department here said, adding that it was the coldest night of the season so far. The night temperature in the city on Monday was minus 2.8 degrees Celsius. The official said other places across the valley and Ladakh region too experienced sub-zero night temperatures last night as the mercury dropped further. Heavy rains to lash parts of coastal TN in next 48 hrs

Heavy rains are likely to lash parts of coastal districts of Tamil Nadu in the next two days following a trough of low over Bay of Bengal, the regional weather office said Tuesday. In the last 24 hours ended 8.30 AM today, there were widespread rains in many parts in coastal Tamil Nadu and neighbouring Puducherry, Deputy Director General of Meteorology, S Balachandran told reporters here. The trough of low over Southwest Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood now runs from Comorin area to southwest Bay of Bengal off south Andhra Pradesh coast, he said. "Due to this, there were widespread rains in the last 24 hours in the coastal ares of Tamil Nadu and Puducherry," he added. According to the rainfall data at 8.30 AM today, Ponneri and Cholavaram in Tiruvallur district recorded 13 cm and 8 cm, respectively, followed by Kelambakkam (Kancheepuram) at 7 cm. It was a cold day in the national capital with the minimum temperature plunging to 8.6 degrees Celsius, the lowest of the season so far. The maximum temperature was recorded at 27.4 degrees Celsius, two notches above the normal, said a Meteorological (MeT) department official. The humidity oscillated between 95 and 34 per cent. The Met office has forecast overcast skies along with the possibility of shallow fog in the morning for Tuesday. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to hover at 27 and 9 degrees respectively," the weatherman said. On Sunday, the maximum temperature was recorded at 28.1 degrees Celsius, while the minimum settled at 9 degrees Celsius.

Mercury continues downward spiral in Kashmir Valley

The minimum temperature settled several degrees below the freezing point at most places in the Kashmir Valley and Ladakh region on Monday even as the summer capital Srinagar experienced the coldest night of the season so far. Snowfall likely in higher reaches of HP on Thursday

The higher reaches of Himachal Pradesh are likely to receive snowfall on Thursday, the meteorological centre here predicted. Light snowfall may occur over high reaches under the influence of a feeble western disturbance, MeT centre director Manmohan Singh said on Sunday. Currently dry northwesterly winds are prevailing over northwest India at lower and upper levels of the atmosphere, so no rain or snow is expected over Himachal Pradesh till Wednesday, he added. Singh said a second western disturbance may affect the western Himalayan region from December 8 and may cause light precipitation at isolated places over Himachal Pradesh till December 10. Light to moderate rain may occur at a few places over the state on December 11 under the influence a third western disturbance, he said.
