Cold wave conditions in Kashmir, Leh records coldest night of season at -15.8 deg C

Cold wave conditions tightened grip in Kashmir as the mercury went down at most places last night, with Leh, in the Ladakh region, experiencing the coldest night of the winter so far. Leh recorded a low of minus 15.8 degrees Celsius last night over three degrees down from minus 12.7 degrees Celsius the previous night, MET officials said, adding it was the coldest night of the season in the frontier town. Cold wave sweeps Pb, Hry; Karnal coldest at zero deg C

The mercury dipped to zero degrees Celsius in Karnal on Saturday as the cold wave sweeping most parts of Haryana and Punjab for over a week continued unabated. The minimum temperatures in the two states were several notches below the normal. Karnal in Haryana recorded a low of zero degrees Celsius, seven degrees below the normal and the lowest in the two states, a Meteorological Department official said. Among other places in Haryana, Hisar, Ambala and Narnaul shivered at 2.7, 4.6 and 2 degrees Celsius respectively, up to five degrees below the normal. Rohtak, Bhiwani and Sirsa recorded minimum temperatures of 3.8, 5.5 and 3.8 degrees Celsius respectively. Keylong coldest place in HP at minus 8.8 deg C

Tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong continued to be the coldest place in Himachal Pradesh with a minimum temperature of minus 8.8 degrees Celsius, the Meteorological (MeT) Department said on Saturday. Cold wave conditions also gripped other parts of the state, causing the mercury to dip below the freezing point in Manali, Solan, Kalpa, Seobagh, Bhuntar and Sundernagar as well, the Met Centre Director Manmohan Singh said. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded in Keylong at minus 8.8 degrees Celsius between 5.30 pm on Friday and 8.30 am on Saturday, he said. Both Manali and Seobagh recorded a minimum temperature of minus 1.6 degrees Celsius during the period. Delhi feels the chill as temperature dips to 4 deg C again

Delhiites shivered on Saturday as the mercury once again dipped to 4 degrees Celsius. This is the second time in three days that the mercury has plunged to 4 degrees Celsius -- the lowest temperature in the last four years. The fall in temperature is due to cold wave conditions prevailing over northwest India, the Meteorological Department said. The minimum temperature in Delhi was recorded at 4 degrees, four notches below the season's average, it said. The mercury had touched the 4-degree Celsius mark on Thursday as well. The humidity level at 8.30 AM on Saturday was recorded at 97 per cent. The weather office has forecast clear skies for the day ahead. "The maximum temperature is likely to hover at 21 degrees Celsius," it said. On Friday, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 20.6 and 4.7 degrees Celsius respectively.

Phulbani coldest place in Odisha at 7 degree Celsius

Cold conditions intensified in Odisha Friday with the temperature plummeting to 7 degree Celsius in Phulbani, making it the coldest place in the state. Muzaffarnagar coldest place in UP at 1.2 degrees Celsius

Parts of Uttar Pradesh shivered amid intense cold on Friday, with Muzaffarnagar recording a minimum temperature of 1.2 degrees Celsius -- the lowest in the state. Adampur shivered at 0.9 degrees Celsius as the cold wave sweeping most parts of Punjab and Haryana for more than a week continued unabated, with minimum temperatures hovering below normal limits at most places on Friday. Mercury dips to 9 degrees Celsius in some places in Odisha

With Cyclone Phethai withering away the mercury dipped to 9 degrees Celsius in at least three places in Odisha on Thursday. Phulbani, Daringbadi and Sundargarh recorded the lowest temperature at 9 degrees Celsius, the Director of the Meteorological Centre here, H R Biswas, said. "Though there is no cold wave in Odisha, temperature has already started dropping in many places. The mercury will fall further, intensifying cold conditions," Biswas said. While the temperature fell to 10.6 degrees Celsius in Angul, it was 10 degrees Celsius in Keonjhar and 10.4 degrees Celsius in Sonepur. The temperature is likely to remain 2 to 3 degrees below normal in most parts of the state in next few days, he said. With the cyclonic storm withering away, cold wind from the northern region has started sweeping into Odisha and cold weather conditions are likely to intensify from Friday, the MeT office said.
