At 3.6 deg C, Delhi records coldest December day in 4 years; mercury to dip further on weekend

People of Delhi shivered in cold wave conditions Wednesday with the minimum temperature dropping to 3.6 degrees Celsius, making it the coldest December day in the national capital since 2014, the Met department said. The Palam observatory registered a minimum temperature of 5.5 degrees Celsius, while areas under Lodhi Road and Ayanagar recorded minimum temperatures of 3.4 and 6 degrees Celsius, respectively. "The minimum temperature was recorded at 3.6 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average. The maximum temperature was recorded at 21.3 degrees Celsius, a notch above the normal," a Met department official said. Delhi has been reeling under intense cold wave conditions for the past few days. On December 23, the minimum temperature was recorded at 3.7 degrees Celsius. Temperature drops in many parts of Rajasthan

Minimum temperature dropped by 1 to 3 degree Celsius in many of parts of Rajasthan amid cold wave conditions, the Met department said Wednesday. Churu recorded a minimum of 0 degrees Celsius, followed by 2.0 degrees Celsius in Sikar, 2.2 in Mount Abu, 2.5 in Pilani, 2.8 in Alwar, 3.5 in Sri Ganganagar, 5.6 in Banasthali, 5.8 in Bhilwara, 6.0 in Eranpura road, 7.4 in Jaipur, 8.0 in Bikaner, 8.2 in Bundi, 8.3 in Kota, 8.5 each in Swai Madhopur and Barmer, 8.6 in Chittorgarh, 8.8 in Udaipur, 9.0 in Ajmer, 10.2 in Jaisalmer, 10.4 in Phalodi and 10.5 degrees Celsius in Jodhpur. Cold wave conditions prevailed in Churu, Sriganganagar, Sikar, Pilani and Alwar districts of the state, the weatherman said. 11 trains cancelled due to fog: Railways

Eleven trains were cancelled, two trains were partially cancelled and the frequency of six trains were reduced Wednesday due to foggy weather conditions, a Northern Railway spokesperson said. A total of 316 trains were affected on Christmas morning due to bad weather conditions, he said. The trains starting from Delhi, including the Lucknow-New Delhi Gomti Express, Lucknow Junction-Meerut city express and Howrah-Anand Vihar Express, were cancelled Wednesday, the spokesperson added. Cold wave continues in UP; Muzaffarnagar coldest at 1 deg C

Cold wave conditions continued at isolated places in western Uttar Pradesh, with Muzaffarnagar being the coldest place in the state, recording a minimum temperature of 1 degrees Celsius. The Meteorological Department Wednesday said shallow to moderate fog occurred at isolated places in the state and there was dense fog in some parts of western UP. Night temperatures fell appreciably below normal limits in Allahabad, Meerut, Faizabad, Lucknow, Agra and Gorakhpur divisions and below normal in Varanasi, Kanpur and Bareilly divisions, it said. Night temperatures were normal in the remaining divisions of the state, the MeT office said. The lowest minimum temperature over the state at 1 degrees Celsius was recorded at Muzaffarnagar, it said. It has forecast cold wave conditions at isolated places and shallow to moderate fog at a few places in the state.

Cold wave intensifies in Kashmir; Leh shivers at minus 17.1C

The cold wave sweeping Kashmir intensified Wednesday as the mercury stayed several degrees below the freezing point, resulting in frozen water bodies and water supply lines in several residential areas. Leh town in Ladakh region recorded the lowest temperature this winter as mercury plummeted to minus 17.1C last night, a Met department official said. Cold wave intensifies in Himachal

The cold wave sweeping Himachal Pradesh has further intensified, with the minimum temperature dropping by a few notches in most parts of the state, the Meteorological (MeT) department said Wednesday. The lowest temperature in the state was recorded in tribal district Lahaul and Spiti's administrative centre Keylong at minus 11.1 degrees Celsius, Director of the MeT Centre, Shimla, Manmohan Singh said. Besides Manali, Solan, Chamba, Kalpa, Seobagh, Sundernagar and Bhuntar were shivering at sub zero level during the period, he added The minimum temperature in Kalpa was recorded at minus 4 degrees Celsius, Manali at minus 3.4 degrees Celsius, Seobagh at minus 2.7, Sundernagar at minus 1.3, Bhuntar at minus 1, Solan at minus 0.7 and Chamba at minus 0.4 degree Celsius, he added. Delhi grapples with cold wave, air quality in 'very poor' category

North India reels under cold wave on Christmas, dense fog disrupts flights at Delhi airport

There was no respite from cold wave conditions on Christmas in north India with dense fog partially stalling flight operations at Delhi airport, officials said Friday. Dense fog was witnessed in various parts of Rajasthan Tuesday amid cold wave conditions, a Meteorological (MeT) official. Traffic movement was affected in Sriganganagar, Churu, Pilani, Sikar and Jaipur where visibility was as low as 50 to 90 meters and 90 to 100 meters in Bikaner, Alwar, Bhilwara and Chittorgarh, the official said. No let up in cold wave, Amritsar, Adampur reels at 0.4 deg C

Freezing cold conditions gripped parts of Punjab and Haryana as the minimum temperatures, which have been hovering below normal limits over the past two weeks, further plummeted on Tuesday. Amritsar and Adampur reeled as the mercury plunged to identical minimum temperatures of 0.4 degrees Celsius, a Meteorological Department (Met) official said here. Cold, foggy morning in Delhi

It was a cold and foggy morning in the national capital on Tuesday, with visibility dropping down to 50 metres. Low visibility disrupted flight operations at the Delhi airport here and departures were put on hold for two hours in the morning, officials said. "The minimum temperature was recorded at 8.30 am at 5 degrees Celsius, three notches below the normal," a Meteorological Department (Met) official said. The humidity level was recorded at 100 per cent. The weatherman has predicted shallow and moderate fog towards the evening as well.
