Chilly morning in Delhi, minimum temp at 3.6 deg C

It was a chilly morning in the national capital with the minimum temperature settling at 3.6 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, a meteorological department official said. The humidity level was recorded at 100 per cent. The weatherman has predicted a clear day ahead with possibility of shallow fog on Tuesday morning. "The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to settle around 22 and 4 degrees Celsius respectively," the official said. On Sunday, the minimum and maximum temperatures were recorded at 3 degrees Celsius and 20 degrees Celsius respectively.

Gaya coldest place in Bihar at 2.7 degree Celsius

Gaya was the coldest place in Bihar on Sunday at 2.7 degree Celsius, which was 6 degrees below its normal minimum temperature, Patna Meteorological Centre said. Earlier, Gaya had recorded 2.6 degrees as its lowest minimum temperature in December 2014, it said. As per the Met bulletin, Gaya would witness cold wave Monday with minimum temperature likely to hover around 3 degrees Celsius on Monday. Patna, the state capital, recorded minimum of 6.4 degree Celsius while the minimum at Purnea was 6.0 degree, Bhagalpur at 7.4 degree, the bulletin said. In its forecast, the Met department has said that dry and cold air will prevail on Monday in Patna and Purnea with fog or mist in early morning while Bhagalpur is likely to witness shallow fog and cold wave condition.

Mercury drops to 3 degrees Celsius in Delhi

Cold conditions prevailed in the national capital on Sunday with the minimum temperature settling at 3 degrees Celsius, four notches below the season's average, the MeT department said. The maximum temperature settled at 22.9 degree Celsius, two notches above the season's average, an official of the Meteorological (MeT) department said. The humidity oscillated between 34 and 100 per cent. Delhi has been reeling under a cold wave for the past few days. Saturday the minimum and maximum temperatures were recorded at 2.6 and 20 degrees Celsius respectively. The MeT has forecast clear skies along with the possibility of moderate fog on Monday morning with haze or smoke thereafter. "The cold waves will continue to prevail at isolated places over Delhi on Monday as well. The minimum and maximum temperatures are likely to be around 4 and 23 degrees Celsius respectively on Monday," the official said.

Amid severe cold, 3 dead in Uttarakhand

Three people have died allegedly due to severe cold wave conditions in Uttarakhand's Dehradun district, officials said Sunday. According to police, three bodies were found from the district's Raiwala area Saturday. Prima-facie it is suspected that they have died due to cold, police said. Officials said exact cause of the death can only be ascertained after the post-mortem examination. There was no respite from cold Sunday with higher reaches of the state reeling under sub-zero temperatures. In the plains, the mercury was 2-3 degrees below the normal. The state capital recorded a minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius, two notches below the normal, the weather office said. Intense cold wave in Punjab, Haryana; Hisar coldest at 1.6 deg C

Hisar in Haryana reeled at 1.6 degrees Celsius as unrelenting cold wave intensifies in the state and neighbouring Punjab on Sunday. Hisar, where minimum settled five notches below normal, was the coldest place in the two states. Karnal, too, experienced the chill at 2 degrees Celsius, down three notches, Meteorological (MeT) Department officials said here. Narnaul and Rohtak also recorded below normal identical minimum temperatures of 3 degrees each. Ambala and Sirsa too registered below normal identical lows at 4.4 degrees Celsius each while Bhiwani's minimum settled at 4.6 degrees. Night temperatures rise across Kashmir, slight relief from cold conditions

The residents in Kashmir experienced huge relief from the intense cold wave conditions as the mercury rose by several degrees across the valley and Ladakh region, even as the minimum temperature continued to settle below the freezing point, a MeT official said here Sunday. The night temperature in Kashmir division, including Ladakh region, rose by several degrees Saturday night owing to a cloudy sky, providing huge relief to the residents from the intense cold wave conditions prevalent over the last few days, the official said. Nagpur shivers at 3.5 degrees, lowest for day in five decades

Nagpur city in eastern Maharashtra on Saturday recorded the lowest temperature of the day in the last five decades, said a Met department official. The mercury plunged to 3.5 degrees Celsius in the city early morning Saturday, the Regional Meteorological Centre said. Deputy Director General of Meteorology J R Prasad said that Nagpur had recorded a minimum temperature of 5 degrees Celsius on December 29, 2014, but today's low of 3.5 degrees is the lowest for this day in nearly five decades. Ahmednagar in Central Maharashtra recorded the lowest temperature in the state at 3 degrees Celsius Saturday, he said.

Cold intensifies in Odisha

After a brief respite, cold wave conditions intensified across Odisha Saturday with state capital Bhubaneswar experiencing its coldest day of the season at 9.5 degree celsius. With biting cold sweeping across Odisha, the mercury dipped below 10 degree celsius at 17 places, the meteorological centre here said. The tourist destination of Daringibadi in Kandhamal district was the coldest place in the state with a minimum temperature of 6 degree Celsius, it said. The temperature, which stood at 15.4 degree celsius here Friday, plummeted to 9.5 degree today, the lowest for in the city this winter, it said. Agra coldest in UP; min temp drops to 1.7C

Severe cold wave conditions prevailed in western Uttar Pradesh with Agra recording the lowest minimum temperature in the state at 1.7 degrees Celsius Saturday morning. The western parts of the state experienced dense fog, a met office release said. Night temperature dropped in Gorakhpur division and remained below normal in Lucknow, Bareilly, Allahabad, Agra, Faizabad, Varanasi and Meerut divisions. The met office forecast shallow to moderate fog at a few places in the state during the next 24 hours.

Leh, Kargil experience coldest night of season

There was slight respite from the intense cold conditions at most places in Kashmir Valley even as Leh and Kargil in Ladakh region of the state experienced the coldest night of the season, the MET office said on Saturday.
