A private firm has signed an MoU with the Uttar Pradesh government to set up health ATMs providing screening of various health parameters at more than 4,600 community and primary health care centres in the state. UP minister justifies bus fare hike, says no further increase in next 5 yrs

Justifying the increase in Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation bus fares, Transport Minister Daya Shankar Singh on Tuesday assured that there would be no further hikes in the next five years. The Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSRTC) on Monday hiked fares for general buses by 25 paise per kilometre to Rs 1.30 per passenger. "There was no increase in fares for two years during the corona period... It should have been hiked earlier... The cost of diesel was Rs 60 per litre when it (the fare) was last raised and now it has gone up to Rs 90," Singh told reporters here. Many vehicles in the fleet have to be phased out after 10 years or upon completion of 11 lakh kilometres because of the National Green Tribunal, Singh said. Singh said the fare hike was important for the UPSRTC's survival. New buses have to be bought, recruitment of employees has been stopped for many years, 900 dependents of deceased employees have not yet been appointed, he added. Singh,

137 firms convicted for sale of substandard pesticide in 5 years: Govt

More than 3,600 firms have been prosecuted for manufacturing, sale and illegal import of sub-standard pesticides in the last five years and 137 companies were convicted by courts after they were found to be guilty, the government said on Tuesday. "In last 5 years (2017-18 to 2021-22), Directorate of Plant Protection, Quarantine & Storage under the Ministry of Agriculture has analysed 3,40,479 pesticide samples, and 3,639 cases have been prosecuted against the firms who were found involved in the manufacture, sale and illegal import of sub-standard/low-quality pesticides, and in 137 cases the firms have been convicted by the Court after finding guilty," Minister of State for Chemicals and Fertilisers Bhagwanth Khuba said. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, the minister said the chemical sector is de-licensed and de-regulated. Metro services in Agra to be operational by early 2024: CM Adityanath

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday said the metro services will be operational for the people of Agra by the beginning of 2024. He was inaugurating the underground work for the tunnel of the Agra Metro Rail Project being undertaken by Uttar Pradesh Rail metro Corporation (UPMRC). Talking to reporters Adityanath said, "The priority corridor of six kilometres would be completed ahead of the six months of the scheduled target and Metro services will be operational for the people of Agra by the beginning of 2024." According to a statement, the priority corridor is a six kilometres corridor, from Taj East Gate to Jama Masjid. RP Sanjiv Goenka Group to invest Rs 10,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh

RP Sanjiv Goenka Group said it will invest Rs 10,000 crore in Uttar Pradesh. The announcement was made by group head Sanjiv Goenka during a meeting with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath. "Dr Sanjiv Goenka in a meeting today with the Honourable Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh Shri Yogi Adityanath has announced an investment of Rs 10,000 crore in the state..," the group said. Out of this, Rs 7,500 crore will be invested in renewables, while power distribution and retail sectors will receive Rs 1,000 crore each. Besides, the sports academies in the state will see an investment of Rs 500 crore, the group said. "With this Rs 10000 crore investment, the total commitment of RP Sanjiv Goenka Group to the state of Uttar Pradesh is now pegged at Rs 20,000 crore," it added. The Kolkata-based group operates in sectors like power, IT-enabled services, media and entertainment, and retail. The group, with revenues of over Rs 26,000 crore, also owns the IPL franchise Lucknow Super Giants.
