The Uttar Pradesh government on Wednesday announced to conduct a survey of unrecognized madrassas in the state to gather information about number of teachers, curriculum, and basic facilities available there, among others. Minister of State for Minority Affairs Danish Azad Ansari said that the state government will conduct the survey as per the requirement of the National Commission for Protection of Child Rights in connection with the availability of basic facilities to the students in madrassas. "The survey will begin soon," the minister told PTI. During the survey, details such as name of madrassa and the institution operating it, whether it is running in a private or rented building, number of students studying there, and information regarding facilities of drinking water, furniture, electricity supply and toilet will be collected, Ansari said. Senior IAS officer Sanjay Prasad has been given the additional charge of the Home Department of Uttar Pradesh following the retirement of Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Avnish Awasthi on Wednesday. Prasad, a 1995 batch IAS officer, is currently posted as Principal Secretary to the chief minister and also information department. Additional Chief Secretary (Information) Navneet Sehgal told PTI that Sanjay Prasad has been given additional charge of Home department. A man was arrested here for allegedly making objectionable remarks against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on social media, police said on Wednesday. Surendra Yadav, a resident of Kot Majharia village under the Narhi police station area, was arrested on Tuesday, they said. Yadav allegedly posted objectionable remarks against the chief minister on Twitter on Monday. The Supreme Court on Tuesday closed the contempt proceedings, arising out of the demolition of Babri Masjid at Ayodhya in 1992, against the state of Uttar Pradesh and others. A bench headed by Justice S K Kaul said the issue does not survive now and referred to the November 2019 verdict of a constitution bench. A five-judge constitution bench of the apex court had on November 9, 2019, cleared the way for the construction of a Ram Temple at the disputed site at Ayodhya and directed the Centre to allot a five-acre plot to the Sunni Waqf Board for building a mosque. Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Saturday instructed officials to initiate an intensive drive against illegal drug trade. Adityanath issued the directions while chairing a meeting through a video link of senior police and administrative officials to review the law and order situation and other matters. "Raids should be conducted against those indulging in illegal drug trade, and if there is any laxity, then accountability will be fixed. The fight against the drug mafia will assume the shape of a mass movement," he said. The Chief Minister said that those indulging in illegal drug trade will be identified at the police station level. Over two dozen people got injured here on Friday evening, when a truck in which they were travelling fell into a gorge, officials said. Additional Chief Medical Officer Dr TP Jaiswal said all injured have been hospitalised. Police sources said that the injured were returning from a cremation in a truck. At around 10.00 pm on the Gonda-Balrampur road, the driver of the DCM truck lost control over it while trying to avoid hitting a stray animal, and drove the truck into a gorge, police said.
