Cowhide transport does not amount to contravention of UP cow act, says HC

The Allahabad High Court has observed that the transport of cowhide does not amount to the contravention of provisions of the UP Prevention of Cow Slaughter Act. The observation was made by Justice Mohammad Aslam On August 17 allowing a criminal revision application filed by Manjeet Tanwar against a November 11, 2021, order of the chief judicial magistrate, Agra, rejecting the release of a vehicle allegedly used to transport cowhide. On March 24, 2021, acting on information that a truckload of cowhide was being transported from Rajasthan's Dhaulpur to Agra, the police stopped the vehicle near Saiyan and seized it. The High Court held that since transportation of cowhide is not specifically prohibited under the UP Cow Slaughter Act, the special magistrate, Agra, has the jurisdiction to decide over the release of the vehicle in question. It directed the chief judicial magistrate, Agra, to pass appropriate order on the release application of the applicant within a month.

Rain deficit in 64 UP districts, several staring at drought-like condition

Sixty-four districts in Uttar Pradesh have received less than normal rainfall this monsoon, with several of these staring at drought-like conditions. According to Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) data, only 11 of the 75 UP districts have received normal rainfall till August 19. While government officials say rain in coming days will bridge the deficit, farmers fear it is already too late. "Our crop is getting damaged. What will rain do later," asks Bhagat Pal, a small paddy farmer of Jaunpur district of eastern UP. Paddy farmers have been particularly affected, first by the delay of rain and then by its deficit. Jaunpur is among the districts that have received least rainfall this monsoon. According to the IMD data, the district has received 74 per cent less rainfall. Don't tweet from AC room, go out and see BJP's work: UP min to Mayawati

Uttar Pradesh Minister Anil Rajbhar on Saturday asked Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati to refrain from tweeting by sitting in an air-conditioned room but go out and look at the work being done by the BJP government. His statement came a day after the former chief minister alleged that there was 'jungle raj' in Uttar Pradesh and the call of development was just a hoax. Rajbhar, the state's labour and employment minister, was speaking to the media after conducting a surprise inspection of the Kannauj district hospital. Rajbhar claimed that the BJP has lived up to people's expectations, which is why it has received the mandate for a second term.
