The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted liberty to Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair to approach the Delhi High Court for quashing of the FIR lodged against him at Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. It said Zubair's petition will be decided on its own merit, uninfluenced by the order of the Allahabad High Court, which had denied him the relief. BJP MLA from Gola Gokarnnath constituency Arvind Giri died due to cardiac arrest on Tuesday, a party leader said. Giri (65), a resident of Tirath locality here is survived by his wife Sudha Giri, two sons and as many daughters, family sources said. According to party leaders, Giri was travelling to Lucknow in his car when he felt uneasy and was taken to a hospital in Sidhauli where he died. Four people, including two women, died and at least 10 were injured after a fire broke out in a four-floor hotel in the city's commercial centre Hazratganj Monday morning, police said. Rescue teams were inspecting the premises of the Levana Suites on Madan Mohan Malviya Marg in Hazratganj to check if someone had been trapped, officials said. Initially, 10 people were rushed to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee civil hospital. Of these, two were declared dead and seven are undergoing treatment. One of the injured was released, they said. Maurya, who held a review meeting with officials of various departments in the district on Saturday, said that in terms of passenger satisfaction the Prayagraj airport has secured 13th position among domestic airports in the country. The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted short-term bail to Lakhimpur Kheri violence accused Ankit Das on medical grounds. Das is a friend of Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, who is the prime accused in the case related to the violence on October 3 last year in which eight people, including four farmers, had died. According to the bail application filed by Das, he is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, fatty liver, and diabetes. His condition is very serious and needs immediate medical treatment which is not available in the jail or district hospital, it said. Considering the circumstances, the justice D K Singh granted bail of 15 days to Das and directed him to surrender forthwith thereafter. The Lucknow Bench of the High Court also fixed September 20 as the next date for hearing and said that if Das did not surrender as directed, his bail would stand cancelled.
