BSP Chief Mayawati urges UP govt to help farmers affected by scarce monsoon

Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati on Thursday urged the Uttar Pradesh government to help farmers affected by a weak monsoon this season. "Farmers of Uttar Pradesh are already in distress as they are not getting sugarcane arrears and remunerative prices for their produce. A weak monsoon now has increased their worries even more," the BSP supremo said in a tweet in Hindi. "The government should immediately start helping these farmers to get them out of such a dire situation. This is the demand of the BSP," she said. The Supreme Court on Wednesday granted liberty to Alt News co-founder Mohammad Zubair to approach the Delhi High Court for quashing of the FIR lodged against him at Sitapur in Uttar Pradesh. It said Zubair's petition will be decided on its own merit, uninfluenced by the order of the Allahabad High Court, which had denied him the relief. A bench of Justices DY Chandrachud and Hima Kohli noted that all the cases lodged against Zubair in Uttar Pradesh, including that in Sitapur, have been transferred as per top court's order dated July 20 to the Special Cell of Delhi police for investigation. The bench said, "in terms of liberty which was granted in order dated July 20, 2022, the petitioner would be able to pursue his rights and remedies available under law before the Delhi High Court. BJP MLA from Gola Gokarnnath constituency Arvind Giri died due to cardiac arrest on Tuesday, a party leader said. Giri (65), a resident of Tirath locality here is survived by his wife Sudha Giri, two sons and as many daughters, family sources said. According to party leaders, Giri was travelling to Lucknow in his car when he felt uneasy and was taken to a hospital in Sidhauli where he died. 4 dead, 10 injured as fire breaks out at Lucknow hotel; UP CM orders probe

Four people, including two women, died and at least 10 were injured after a fire broke out in a four-floor hotel in the city's commercial centre Hazratganj Monday morning, police said. Rescue teams were inspecting the premises of the Levana Suites on Madan Mohan Malviya Marg in Hazratganj to check if someone had been trapped, officials said. Initially, 10 people were rushed to Shyama Prasad Mukherjee civil hospital. Of these, two were declared dead and seven are undergoing treatment. One of the injured was released, they said. Officials said two more people were later rushed to the civil hospital, and were declared dead, taking the toll to four. "Two more people who were found in a serious condition during room to room search of the hotel were rushed to the civil hospital. Prayagraj airport will be made international facility before 2025 Mahakumbh

Before the Mahakumbh in 2025, the airport in Prayagraj will be made an international facility, Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Keshav Prasad Maurya has said. The Allahabad High Court on Friday granted short-term bail to Lakhimpur Kheri violence accused Ankit Das on medical grounds. Das is a friend of Union Minister Ajay Mishra's son Ashish Mishra, who is the prime accused in the case related to the violence on October 3 last year in which eight people, including four farmers, had died. According to the bail application filed by Das, he is suffering from pulmonary fibrosis, fatty liver, and diabetes. His condition is very serious and needs immediate medical treatment which is not available in the jail or district hospital, it said. Considering the circumstances, the justice D K Singh granted bail of 15 days to Das and directed him to surrender forthwith thereafter. The Lucknow Bench of the High Court also fixed September 20 as the next date for hearing and said that if Das did not surrender as directed, his bail would stand cancelled.
