Substantiate claims on deletion of voter names, says EC to Akhilesh Yadav

The Election Commission has asked Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav to substantiate his allegation against the poll authority of mass deletion of voters from Yadav and Muslim communities from the electoral rolls of every assembly seat during the Uttar Pradesh elections this year. In a letter to Yadav, the Commission has asked him to submit by November 10 assembly-wise evidence of the wrongful deletions and complaints filed by the Samajwadi Party (SP) with the district and state electoral authorities in this regard. Addressing a party meet last month, Yadav had accused the poll panel of "deleting" the names of Muslim and Yadav votes in every assembly constituency. It is learnt that the Commission had told Yadav that it had not received any complaint about deletion of names of 20,000 voters from the electoral rolls of any constituency. Saharanpur: 307 madrassa declared illegal, government survey finds

Saharanpur district officials on Sunday declared Darul Uloom, Deoband- an Islamic education institution- as an 'illegal' unrecognized madrassa, following a survey conducted by the government submitted its report.The district officials named 306 other unrecognized Islamic education institutions in their report as illegal."Information about 306 illegal madrasas that were traced was sent to Administration. Darul Uloom Deoband is also an illegal madrasa and is deprived of scholarships & other schemes," Bharat Lal Gond, District Minority Welfare Officer said."An investigation was done on basis of parameters set by the Administration like the year of establishment of the madrasa, the society that runs it, the name of the madrasa, and their source of income," he added."Whatever decision the administration takes, based on that complaint will be filed," BL Gond further said.According to reports, 754 madrassas are registered with the district administration. UP CM Adityanath announces Rs 500 monthly motorcycle allowance for police

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Friday announced a monthly motorcycle allowance of Rs 500 for police personnel in the state. "The Uttar Pradesh government has decided to increase the cycle allowance of Rs 200 given to policemen to Rs 500 (per month) as motorcycle allowance," Adityanath said during his address at the Police Memorial Day Parade at Reserve Police Lines here. The government will also link the police personnel with an e-pension portal, Adityanath said. SC dismisses 'publicity interest litigation' seeking inquiry of Taj Mahal

The Supreme Court on Friday junked a plea seeking a "fact-finding inquiry" into the history of the Taj Mahal and the "opening of 22 rooms" on the monument's premises, terming it "publicity interest litigation". A bench of justices M R Shah and M M Sundresh refused to interfere with the Allahabad High Court order that had dismissed the plea. "The high court was not in error in dismissing the petition, which is more of a publicity interest litigation. Dismissed," the bench said. Dengue patient in UP transfused fruit juice instead of platelets, dies

A private hospital here has been sealed for allegedly transfusing fruit juice instead of blood platelets to a dengue patient who later died, police said. After a video of the alleged incident went viral on social media, the district administration swung into action and the hospital was sealed on Thursday on the direction of Uttar Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak. The patient, Pradeep Pandey, was shifted to another hospital, where he died after his condition deteriorated, officials said. However, no FIR has been registered at the local police station.
