Govt makes budgetary allocation of Rs 786 cr for tourism sector in J&K

The tourism sector in Jammu and Kashmir has got a major boost as the government has made a record budgetary allocation of Rs 786 crore this year, an increase of 184 per cent over the allocation for the previous year. In a major intervention for upliftment of the tourism sector in J&K, the Union government made a record budget allocation of Rs 786 crore in budget for the tourism sector here, which is Rs 509 crore higher than last budgetary allocation, officials said here on Wednesday. The officials added that the intent of the massive budgetary allocation was to boost tourism and allied services of Jammu and Kashmir. "The year 2021 witnessed a large footfall of tourists; both national as well as international due to numerous positive and constructive interventions of the central government in consonance with the government of Jammu and Kashmir," the officials said. Heavy snowfall in Valley disrupts flight operations at Srinagar airport

The air traffic to and from Kashmir was affected on Wednesday as all flights at the Srinagar airport were cancelled due to bad weather in the wake of heavy snowfall in the Valley, officials said. "All flights of all airlines have been cancelled," said Kuldeep Singh, director, Airport Authority of India (AAI), Srinagar airport. The flight operations at the airport were affected due to bad weather and low visibility in the wake of heavy snowfall across the Valley. A total of 41 flights have been cancelled, he said. The visibility was below 400 metres and the continuous snowfall made the operations impossible, he added. Singh said the passengers of the cancelled flights will be adjusted on the next available flights.

Dubai's Emaar group to develop 500,000 sq ft shopping mall in Srinagar

Dubai-based realty firm Emaar Properties on Monday said it will develop a 5 lakh square feet shopping mall at Srinagar in Jammu & Kashmir. A memorandum of understanding (MoU) has been signed between the governments of Dubai and Jammu & Kashmir to facilitate investments into this proposed project, Emaar said in a statement. This will be the first significant FDI investment in the union territory, it added. According to the MoU, Emaar will develop 'Emaar Mall' of 5,00,000 square feet in size in Srinagar. "The UAE and India are comprehensive strategic partners and this project by EMAAR will be a landmark of Jammu and Kashmir. I would like to congratulate EMAAR and all the partners in this project , and am sure we will see many such projects coming up in the near future," said H. E. Lashkar-e-Taiba terrorist killed in encounter in Srinagar today

A Pakistani Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorist was killed in an encounter with security forces in Harwan area of the city in the early hours of Sunday, police said. Security forces launched a cordon and search operation in Harwan following specific input about the presence of terrorists in the area, he said. The search operation turned into an encounter after terrorists fired upon the forces, who retaliated. In the ensuing gunfight, a terrorist was killed, the official said. The slain terrorist was identified as Saifulla, resident of Pakistan.
