North Korea fired ballistic missile toward eastern waters: South Korea

North Korea launched a ballistic missile toward its eastern waters on Thursday, South Korea's military said, hours after the North threatened to launch "fiercer" military responses to the US bolstering its security commitment to its allies South Korea and Japan. South Korea's Joint Chiefs of Staff said in a brief statement that it detected the launch from North Korea but gave no further details like how far the weapon flew and where it landed. Earlier Thursday, North Korean Foreign Minister Choe Son Hue warned that a recent US-South Korea-Japan summit accord on the North would leave tensions on the Korean Peninsula "more unpredictable". Choe's statement was North Korea's first official response to US President Joe Biden's trilateral summit with his South Korean and Japanese counterparts in Cambodia on Sunday. In their joint statement, the three leaders strongly condemned North Korea's recent missile tests and agreed to work together to strengthen deterrence, while Biden reaffirmed t

North Korea fires ballistic missile towards eastern sea: South Korea

South Korea's military says North Korea has fired at least one ballistic missile toward its eastern sea. The South's Joint Chiefs of Staff on Wednesday did not immediately say how far the missile flew. The launch extends a recent barrage in North Korean weapons demonstrations, including dozens of launches last week that the North described as simulated attacks on South Korean and US targets. North Korea has dialled up its weapons demonstrations to a record pace this year as leader Kim Jong Un exploits the distraction created by Russia's war on Ukraine to accelerate arms development and ramp up pressure on the United States and its regional allies. South Korea says the recovered debris of a North Korean missile fired toward the South amid a barrage of sea launches last week was determined to be a Soviet-era anti-aircraft weapon that dates back to the 1960s. South Korea's Defence Ministry said on Wednesday that an analysis of the 3-metre (9.8 foot)-long wreckage fetched from waters

Missile tests were practice to attack South Korea, US, says North Korea

North Korea's military said Monday its recent barrage of missile tests were practices to attack its rivals' air bases and warplanes and paralyse their operation command systems, showing Pyongyang's resolve to counter provocative U.S.-South Korean military drills more thoroughly and mercilessly. North Korea fired dozens of missiles and flew warplanes last week, triggering evacuation alerts in some South Korean and Japanese areas, in response to massive U.S.-South Korean air force drills that the North views as an invasion rehearsal. U.S. and South Korean officials strongly condemned the North's missile launches, saying their drills were defensive in nature. The recent corresponding military operations by the Korean People's Army are a clear answer of (North Korea) that the more persistently the enemies' provocative military moves continue, the more thoroughly and mercilessly the KPA will counter them, the General Staff of the Korean People's Army said in a statement carried by state
