New Delhi, 15 MarchCongress chief Rahul Gandhi met Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar on Wednesday night. The meeting came hours after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) lost the Gorakhpur and Phulpur by-elections, and a day before the Congress plenary session.In another development, Lok Janshakti Party chief, and union minister, Ram Vilas Paswan, a constituent of the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government at the Centre, called a meeting of all Dalit members of Parliament on Thursday evening.Paswan had hosted a similar dinner after the BJP's rout in Bihar assembly polls in 2015. Sharad Pawar to be co-ordinator of Oppn's subgroup on presidential polls

New Delhi, 6 JuneThe Opposition has formed a subgroup of leaders to take forward discussions on fielding a common candidate for the presidential and vice presidential polls. Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) chief Sharad Pawar is likely to be the coordinator of this subgroup, and by virtue of this could emerge as the leader of a united Opposition in the run up to the 2019 Lok Sabha polls.According to sources, other members of the group are former prime minister Manmohan Singh, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and Communist Party of India (Marxist) chief Sitaram Yechury.As both Banerjee and Yechury are its members, the subgroup is unlikely to have a common meeting. Yechury's party and Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress are rivals in West Bengal and the two leaders do not want to be seen sharing a common platform. Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) President Sharad Pawar will quit his position in six months, after the state body accepted the Supreme Court verdict on sweeping reforms in the BCCI and its affiliates in toto. At a press conference after the managing committee meeting in Mumbai on Sunday, the 75-year-old Maharashtra strongman, who has been both ICC and BCCI chief, said he accepted the Supreme Court's verdict, which puts an age cap of 70 years for cricket administrators. However, he added the MCA would take six months to implement the apex court's orders, which effectively means he will not retire immediately.
