Eid-ul-Fitr: Devotees offer prayers in Aligarh
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the Muslim holy month of Ramzan, is being celebrated across the country today. Scores of Muslims residing in the Aligarh region gathered at Shah Jamal Eidgah on Wednesday to offer "namaz" (prayers) on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr and bid farewell to Ramzan, and welcome a festival that begins with the sighting of the new moon.Along with middle-aged men, a lot of youngsters were seen offering prayers. Delhi: Man killed in scuffle with neighbours, 2 held
A 26-year-old man was killed in a scuffle that broke out in Pul Pehlad Pur area on Tuesday allegedly after another man made questionable comments about his daughter.Police said that an altercation took place between Rakesh and Krishna after the latter passed inappropriate comments about Rakesh's 3-year-old daughter. The neighbours of the duo were forced to intervene in the matter and sent them to their respective houses.After half an hour, police said Rakesh went to Krishna's house along with his wife Pooja and brother Mukesh. A scuffle then broke out between Rakesh, Krishna and his brother Ranjeet.The deceased's wife stated that Ranjeet and Krishna assaulted Rakesh with a sharp object during the brawl, after which he was rushed to Majidiya Hospital. However, he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.A case has been registered at Pul Prahladpur Police Station and Ranjeet and Krishna have been arrested.
Man killed by neighbours for opposing to objectionable remarks against minor daughter
A man was killed allegedly by his neighbours after he opposed to their objectionable remarks against his three-year-old daughter in southeast Delhi's Pul Prahladpur area on Tuesday, police said. A scuffle broke out between Rakesh and Krishna following a heated argument over the objectionable remarks against the former's daughter, Deputy Commissioner of Police (southeast) Chinmoy Biswal said. Other people in the neighbourhood intervened in the matter and separated the two , he said. After half-an-hour, Rakesh, along with his wife Pooja and brother Mukesh, reached outside Krishna's house, the DSP said. Pooja told police that Krishna and his brother Ranjeet attacked her husband with a sharp object, he said. Rakesh's family members rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he died during treatment, Biswal said. A case was registered in the matter and Ranjeet and Krishna were arrested, police he added.
Prez greets citizens on eve of Eid
President Ram Nath Kovind on Tuesday greeted fellow citizens on the eve of Eid. "Marking the culmination of the holy month of Ramzan, this festival strengthens our belief in charity, fraternity and compassion," he said. Kovind said, "On this day, let us re-dedicate ourselves to these eternal values that characterise our civilization." Leaders extend Eid-ul-Fitr greetings
Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit, Chief Minister K Palaniswami and DMK president M K Stalin Tuesday extended their greetings on the eve of Eid-ul-Fitr. Eid to be celebrated on Wednesday
Eid-ul-Fitr, which marks the culmination of the fasting month of Ramzan, will be celebrated across the country on Wednesday as the moon was sighted here Tuesday evening. Jama Masjid Shahi Imam Syed Ahmed Bukhari made the announcement after a meeting of the moon-sighting committee here. "The moon was sighted today. That means Eid will be celebrated on Wednesday in Delhi and other parts of the country," a senior official at the city's historic mosque told PTI. Eid-ul-Fitr symbolises peace and brotherhood. The festival is marked with feasts and the faithful offers prayers at mosques and idgahs to seek blessings of the divine. People, especially children dress up in their traditional fineries to mark the festival.

Preposterous to detach science from religion: Pak minister chides clerics ahead of Eid-ul-Fitr
Pakistan's Minister for Science and Technology Fawad Chaudhry has hit out at clerics for trying to detach science from religion, saying the religious leaders must use "common sense" when it comes to sighting the moon to determine Eid-ul-Fitr. Chaudhry, a close aide of Prime Minister Imran Khan, has angered the clerics by discontinuing the traditional moon sighting methods used by the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee to end the moon sighting controversy during all important Islamic festivals. Till now, the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee, the department which announces the sighting of the new moon, used to determine when Eid-ul-Fitr is celebrated in Pakistan. Venkaiah Naidu offers prayers at Lord Venkateswara shrine
Vice President M Venkaiah Naidu Tuesday offered prayers at the famous hill shrine of Lord Venkateswara at Tirumala near here. Naidu arrived here with his family members last evening on a two-day spiritual visit and stayed at a heavily guarded Tirumala Tirupati Devasthanams (TTD) guest house on the hills. On his arrival at the shrine at the crack of dawn, he was accorded a warm welcome. He spent about half an hour in the shrine, temple sources told PTI. After offering prayers, the vice president was honoured with a sacred silk cloth and 'prasadam' by the management of the shrine.
