Supreme Court dismisses plea against UP CM Yogi Adityanath in 2018 case

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea seeking direction for registering of a case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath for an alleged objectionable speech during an election campaign in Rajasthan's Alwar in 2018. A bench of Justices B R Gavai and Vikram Nath said it was not inclined to interfere in the matter. "Such litigations are only for page 1 (of newspapers). Dismissed," the bench said. The petitioner had moved the top court against an order of the Allahabad High Court which had dismissed his plea and imposed a cost of Rs 5,000 on him. The petition was filed by Naval Kishor Sharma of Mau district. According to the petitioner, Adityanath had on November 23, 2018, in an election speech in Alwar hurt his religious sentiments. Before moving to the apex court, the petitioner had filed a complaint against the speech before the district court of Mau, which was rejected. ReNew setting up solar cell units at Rs 2,000 cr investment in Raj, Guj

ReNew Power is investing Rs 2,000 crore to set up solar cell and module manufacturing units in Gujarat and Rajasthan, its Chairman Sumant Sinha said. The company is also exploring investment opportunities in Uttar Pradesh to expand presence in the country, Sinha, who is also the founder and CEO of ReNew, told PTI. The country is moving towards becoming Atmanirbhar in solar cell and modules, he said. "Rs 2,000 crore is already being spent by ReNew," the chairman said in reply to a question if his company is exploring investment opportunities in the space of solar cell and module manufacturing. A solar cell and module manufacturing unit with an annual capacity of 2 gigawatt (GW) is being set up in Gujarat, he said. Another unit for manufacturing of only solar modules is being set up in Rajasthan with a 4 GW annual capacity, Sinha said. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot reiterated on Thursday that his government's Chiranjeevi Health Insurance scheme should be implemented across the country. The Centre should also take the initiative to introduce a Social Security Act and implement the Old Pension Scheme for government employees, Gehlot said at the closing ceremony of the All India Presiding Officers' Conference at the Rajasthan Legislative Assembly here. Saying he has already requested Prime Minister Narendra Modi in this regard, Gehlot reiterated that the Chiranjeevi Health Insurance scheme should be implemented across the country. Under the scheme, the Rajasthan government provides health insurance of Rs 10 lakh and also bears the expense for organ transplants. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Sunday termed the health sector "biggest priority" of the state government. Ninety per cent people of Rajasthan are covered under the Chief Minister Chiranjeevi Health Insurance Scheme, Gehlot said asserting that the state ranks first in the country in providing health insurance to the common man. Only 41 per cent people in the country have health insurance coverage, he claimed. Rajasthan's first cruise service likely to start in March in Ajmer

A double-decker cruise with a capacity of carrying 150 passengers will be the new attraction in Rajasthan's Ajmer, which is famous for the shrine of Sufi saint Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti and Brahma temple in Pushkar. Raj govt making every effort to provide adequate power to agri sector: CM

Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot Saturday said the Rajasthan government is making every effort to provide adequate electricity for agricultural activities and instructed officials to ensure that power supply to farmers is not affected under any circumstances. If required, purchase of electricity from power exchange and other sources should be ensured, he said at a meeting to review the status of power supply in the state. Cold conditions prevail in parts of Rajasthan, dense fog envelops state

Fatehpur recorded a temperature of minus 0.7 degree Celsius as cold conditions prevailed in parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday. Fatehpur was followed by Churu, which recorded a minimum temperature of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius, according to the Met centre here. Anta recorded 1.4 degrees Celsius, Bhilwara 1.8 degrees, Sikar 2.0 degrees, Karauli 2.2 degrees, Pilani 2.7 degrees, Bundi 3.4 degrees, Dholpur 3.6 degrees and Bikaner 4.6 degrees. In Jaipur, the maximum and minimum temperatures were recorded at 17.7 and 4.6 degrees Celsius, respectively, in the last 24 hours. The weather office said dense fog blanketed the state on Tuesday night. Dense fog was recorded in some parts of Bikaner, Jaipur, Bharatpur and Kota divisions on Wednesday as well. The Met office has issued an 'Orange Alert' for continuation of the extreme cold wave in many districts, including Alwar, Bharatpur, Dholpur, Jhunjhunu and Karauli.
