Ajay Maken unwilling to continue as Congress' Rajasthan in-charge

Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken has expressed his unwillingness to continue as the in-charge of Rajasthan, where he had failed to convene a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in September amid a rebellion by MLAs. In a letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge on November 8, Maken cited the developments of September 25 and asked the party chief to appoint someone in place of him, sources said on Wednesday. The development comes ahead of the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi entering Rajasthan in the first week of December. Maken and Kharge had gone to Jaipur as central observers for holding a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in September amid charges and counter-charges by both factions in favour of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot. Gehlot asks officials to ensure timely supply of fertilisers to farmers

Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Monday directed officials to ensure time-bound supply and distribution of DAP and urea to farmers for sowing rabi crops, according to an official release. Gehlot issued the directions at a meeting held to review the supply of fertilisers and electricity. The chief minister asked officials to make sure that power supply to the farmers in the state is not interrupted at any cost. Sufficient electricity should be made available to the farmers to irrigate rabi crops, the release said. Gehlot said the government is working with commitment to ensure supply of fertilisers to farmers for sowing rabi crops, it said. He was informed that due to good rainfall in October, rabi sowing has increased by 15 lakh hectares as compared to last year. "There has been an increase of about 103 per cent in sowing of wheat, 87 per cent in barley, 16 per cent in mustard and taramira, 27 per cent in gram and about 56 per cent in other crops as compared to last year.

Rajasthan govt approves Rs 2.60 crore for camel conservation scheme

The Rajasthan government has approved an outlay of Rs 2.60 crore for the Camel Conservation Scheme which is aimed at protecting camels. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has approved a proposal for the scheme, an official statement said on Monday. Under the scheme, each female camel and calf will be tagged by the veterinary doctor and an identity card will be issued. The camel rearer will be given Rs 5,000 while the veterinarian will receive Rs 50 honorarium for each identity card. On completion of one year of the camel calf, the rearer will get another installment of Rs 5,000. The amount of both the installments will be deposited in the bank account of the camel rearer. The chief minister has decided to implement the camel conservation and development policy in the budget for the year 2022-23. A provision of Rs 10 crore was made for this.

Udaipur railway explosion: Police doubt Asarwa-Udaipur Express sabotage

An explosion occurred on a railway track here on Sunday, hours before the recently inaugurated Asarwa-Udaipur Express train from Ahmedabad was supposed to pass. The police said they were investigating all angles, including sabotage. Officials said mining explosives were used to damage the tracks on Odha bridge near Kewda Ki Naal, which comes under the Jawar Mines police station of Udaipur. "Local people informed us about the explosion in the morning. We have found some explosives on the track and efforts are being made to identify those responsible," local SHO Anil Kumar Vishnoi said. Union Minister Jitendra Singh on Sunday said incidents of stubble burning have risen by 160 per cent in Rajasthan and 20 per cent in Punjab from October 2021 to October this year. Farm fires in Punjab rose from 13,269 in October 2021 to 16,004 in October 2022, while their number rose from 124 to 318 in Rajasthan during this period, Singh said. This, he said, implies that the governments in the two states are not doing enough to check stubble burning and are, on the contrary, increasingly contributing to the deteriorating air quality in Delhi-NCR. On the other hand, states such as Haryana and Uttar Pradesh have recorded progressive decline in the incidents of stubble burning, the Minister of State (Independent Charge) Earth Sciences said.
