Development took place even when old pension scheme was in place: Gehlot

Brushing aside the criticism of the revival of the old pension scheme (OPS) for Rajasthan government employees, Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Saturday said India witnessed development even when the OPS was in place. He asserted that the OPS will continue in Rajasthan as pension is a state subject. Gehlot called upon other states to revive the old pension scheme and also demanded a uniform policy for social security in the entire country. He said the central government should come forward to make the policy. Experts have opined that reviving old pension would put state finances under difficulty. Speaking at a press conference on the completion of four years of his government, the chief minister said the demand to return the new pension scheme fund has been turned down but his government will take up the issue. "Deciding pension is the right of the state," he said. Referring to the criticism of the OPS by the finance commission and NITI Aayog, Gehlot said the critics may be saying

While addressing a pre-budget dialogue with farmers, cattle rearers, office bearers of dairy unions and representatives of tribal areas at the Chief Minister's Office, Gehlot said that suggestions of common people are important for a democratic government. He said the state government will try its best to incorporate all the useful suggestions in the agriculture budget. The chief minister said that agriculture, animal husbandry and allied sectors are the pillars of the state's GDP and economy. Ajay Maken unwilling to continue as Congress' Rajasthan in-charge

Senior Congress leader Ajay Maken has expressed his unwillingness to continue as the in-charge of Rajasthan, where he had failed to convene a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party in September amid a rebellion by MLAs. In a letter to party president Mallikarjun Kharge on November 8, Maken cited the developments of September 25 and asked the party chief to appoint someone in place of him, sources said on Wednesday. The development comes ahead of the Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi entering Rajasthan in the first week of December. Maken and Kharge had gone to Jaipur as central observers for holding a meeting of the Congress Legislature Party (CLP) in September amid charges and counter-charges by both factions in favour of Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot and his former deputy Sachin Pilot. The CLP meeting could not take place, but some MLAs considered loyal to the chief minister, held a separate meeting at the residence of state minister Shanti Dhariwal, who opposed Pilot as ...
