BJP leader Satish Poonia on Sunday mounted an offensive on the Congress government in Rajasthan on the issue of law and order and alleged that the state was top in crimes against women. Poonia, the deputy leader of opposition in the Rajasthan Assembly, on Sunday reached Pachpadra in Barmer district with a BJP delegation to meet family members of the Dalit woman who was allegedly set afire after being raped. She died while undergoing treatment in Jodhpur. "The rape and murder of a Dalit woman in Pachpadra is shocking. As a result of the state's failed law-and-order situation, women today are insecure and the spirits of criminals are high," Poonia told reporters. The 30-year-old woman was allegedly raped on Thursday by Shakoor Khan at her home in Barmer district's Balotra and set her on fire. The woman was cremated on Sunday after a post-mortem. The Rajasthan government will organise camps in urban wards and villages from April 24 to highlight its public welfare and inflation relief schemes, it said in a statement on Saturday. Along with the 'Prashashan Shehro-Gaon Ke Sang' campaign, inflation relief camps will be organised in villages and cities from April 24 to June 30. At the camps, the general public and the deprived sections will be linked to the schemes based on their eligibility. The camps, which will be organised in 11,283 gram panchayats and 7,500 urban wards, will include special inflation relief camps. Permanent inflation relief camps will also come up at 2,000 locations, including state-run hospitals, gas agencies, bus stands, major markets, shopping malls, government offices and public places. On Saturday, Chief Secretary Usha Sharma held a meeting at the secretariat regarding the camps and gave necessary instructions on their conduct.

Private doctors in Rajasthan on Tuesday ended their 17-day strike over the Right to Health Bill after the state government agreed to their key demands including keeping unaided private hospitals outside the ambit of the proposed law. The doctors' bodies said that the two sides reached consensus during talks with the state government agreeing to keep private hospitals that have not availed land at subsidised rates or other benefits from it outside the ambit of the proposed law. Besides, in the first phase of implementing the proposed law, private multi-speciality hospitals with less than 50 beds will be kept out of its purview, according to the agreement. Among other provisions, the recently passed Bill allows people to get emergency treatment from all government and designated private hospitals without payment. Gehlot, while informing the public that the number of COVID cases has increased in the past few days, said he too has tested positive for it. "I myself have been infected with mild symptoms of Covid. As per the advice of the doctors, I will continue working from my residence for the next few days. All of you should take care and follow Covid protocols," Gehlot tweeted. Raje in a tweet said she has isolated herself since testing positive. "My report has come positive in the Covid test. I am in complete isolation on the advice of doctors," Raje tweeted. "Those who came in contact with me should get themselves tested and take precautions," she advised. Medical services were affected in parts of Rajasthan on Wednesday after government doctors and faculty members in medical colleges went on a one-day strike in solidarity with private doctors agitating against the Right to Health Bill. However, several government doctors attended to patients in OPDs at places like Bharatpur, Alwar and Udaipur. Emergency services and ICUs were exempted from the strike. A health department official said in the evening that there was no significant impact of the boycott because the OPDs were handled through alternative arrangements. The Rajasthan government on Saturday announced a 4 per cent increase in the dearness allowance of the state employees and pensioners. The pensioners and state government employees will now receive a 42 per cent dearness allowance (DA) with effect from January 1, 2023. Earlier, 38 per cent DA was being given to them. The decision will benefit about 8 lakh state employees and 4.40 lakh pensioners, according to an official release. Apart from the state employees, this benefit will also be payable to the work-charged, Panchayat Samiti and Zila Parishad employees. The state government will bear a financial burden of about Rs 1,640 crore annually with this increase. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot said the central government announced a DA, but it is implemented after a long time, while the Rajasthan government ensures immediate payment of the increased amount along with the announcement.
A minor clash broke out between police and agitating doctors from private health care centres during a protest rally here, officials said on Monday. The doctors were marching to the state assembly to demand withdrawal of the Rajasthan government's proposed Right to Health Bill. The police resorted to using mild force after the protesting doctors tried to jump the barricades after their march was stopped near the Statue Circle, the officials said. Later, they staged a 'dharna' at the spot where senior police officials met and tried to pacify them. After some time, a delegation of five doctors was called to the assembly to hold talks with the government. "Our demand was to meet the chief minister but the health minister met us in the assembly. Rajasthan disaster management and relief minister Govind Ram Meghwal on Monday informed the Assembly that assessment is being conducted to evaluate the damage to the crops due to the recent rainfalls in the state. He said that the issue will be taken up with Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot for a special relief package for the farmers. The minister said due to untimely rains and hailstorms recently, the farmers have suffered crop loss and district collectors have been directed to conduct an assessment to evaluate the damage. Meghwal informed the house during the zero hour that directions have been issued for the payment of agricultural input subsidies to eligible farmers affected by damage due to frost, cold waves and hailstorms in December and January. He said that assistance will be provided to the farmers affected by crop failure from January to March in accordance with the State Disaster Response Fund (SDRF) norms. Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot on Friday approved Rs 37 crore for various projects that aim to increase irrigation efficiency and prevent water wastage in canals and dams. As part of the projects, the Kagdi dam in Banswara district will be renovated at a cost of Rs 10 crore. Another Rs 11.73 crore will be used to line the canal from the Gajadharpura sewage treatment plant to Kalakh dam in Jaipur's Kalwad tehsil, the government said in a statement. The canal from Mora Sagar dam Sawaimadhopur district's in Bamanwas tehsil will be lined at an estimated cost of Rs 15.03 crore, it said. The projects will allow improved irrigation efficiency and minimise water wastage. In the Budget for 2022-23, Gehlot had announced projects worth Rs 800 crore for the renovation of dams and canals. Of these, works worth Rs 611.95 crore have been approved.
