Prakash Javadekar condemns PFI violence on hartal day, blames Left govt

Senior BJP leader Prakash Javadekar on Saturday condemned the violence during the PFI-sponsored hartal in Kerala and lashed out at the CPI(M) saying the Left government was equally responsible for the attacks. Javadekar, Kerala in-charge of the BJP, said the raids were conducted against the Popular Front of India (PFI)in 15 states but violence was witnessed only in the southern state. PFI had called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal on Friday against the National Investigation Agency-led pan India raids against the outfit, for allegedly supporting terror related activities, in which over 100 of its activists were arrested. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has claimed that the documents seized during the nation-wide raids conducted at offices of Popular Front of India (PFI) and its leaders contain highly incriminating materials targeting prominent leaders of a particular community. In a remand report submitted before the NIA special court here seeking custody of 10 people in connection with a case registered here, the agency also alleged that the radical Islamist outfit encouraged youth to join terrorist groups including Lashkar-e-Taiba and Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS). The report, which was submitted on September 22, also claims that the outfit also conspired to establish Islamic rule in India by committing terrorist act as a part of violent jihad. 70 buses damaged in violence, corporation suffered Rs 45 lakh loss: KSRTC

The Kerala government and the KSRTC on Friday informed the Kerala High Court that 70 KSRTC buses were damaged in the hartal called by the Popular Front of India (PFI) and subsequent violence in the state. The state-run public transport corporation submitted before the High Court that it suffered a loss of Rs 45 lakh due to the damages suffered due to the stone pelting and violence during the dawn-to-dusk hartal called by the PFI. Justice Devan Ramachandran asked the corporation whether this loss will be recovered from those who held the hartal. He also said that law was being violated due to lack of fear in the law enforcement system. The court asked the government to submit the steps taken by it in the incident. PFI hartal: Kerala police warns of stern action against law breakers

Kerala police have beefed up security in the state and issued directions to the district police chiefs to ensure law and order after the radical Islamic outfit Popular Front of India (PFI) called for a state-wide hartal on Friday. The dawn-to-dusk hartal was called by the PFI to protest against the raids in the offices and residences of its leaders and their subsequent arrests on Thursday by the NIA and other agencies for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country. A statement issued by the police said stern action will be taken against those who violate the law. "All the policemen in the state will be deployed for the maintenance of law and order, " the statement said. Meanwhile, the state-run KSRTC has informed that it will operate as usual. Nearly 100 arrested in NIA raids across 11 states on terror funding charges

As many as 106 activists of the Popular Front of India were arrested on Thursday in early morning raids by multi-agencies led by the National Investigation Agency, covering around 11 states, for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country, officials said. The maximum number of arrests were made in Kerala (22) followed by Maharashtra and Karnataka (20 each), Andhra Pradesh (5), Assam (9), Delhi (3), Madhya Pradesh (4), Puducherry (3), Tamil Nadu (10), Uttar Pradesh (8) and Rajasthan (2). According to the officials, the arrests were made during the raids which have been termed as the "largest-ever investigation process till date". Details of the arrested activists were not available immediately, but officials said the arrests were done by the National Investigation Agency (NIA), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and the police forces of 11 states so far. Activists of the Popular Front of India (PFI) on Thursday staged protests across Kerala against the raids carried out in their organisation's offices, houses of leaders and other premises by multi-agencies led by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) for allegedly supporting terror activities in the country. The outfit also called for a dawn-to-dusk hartal in the southern state on Friday to mark their strong protest against the central agencies' act. A PFI statement here said its state committee observed that the arrest of the leaders was part of "state-sponsored terrorism".
