The BJP in Kerala on Friday accused the LDF government of adopting a 'delaying tactics' in its follow-up actions against the Popular Front of India (PFI) two days after it was banned by the Centre, alleging that it was part of the political agenda to woo the cadres of the radical Islamic outfit to the ruling CPI(M). Karnataka Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Friday alleged that Leader of the Opposition Siddaramaiah is seeking a ban on Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) to hide the fact that the previous Congress government led by him had withdrawn cases against the now banned Popular Front of India (PFI). With the Central government banning the Popular Front of India (PFI), Mangaluru city police sealed 12 of its offices and associate outfits within the city. Police sources said 10 offices of the PFI, the office of the Campus Front of India (CFI) and an information and empowerment office of the organisation were sealed since Wednesday evening. The PFI offices located at Kasaba Bengre, Chokkabettu, Katipalla, Adoor, Kinnipadav, K C Road, Inoli, Mallur, Nellikai road and Kudroli were sealed. The Home Department of the state government on Wednesday issued an order stating that since PFI, its associates, affiliates and fronts have been declared as unlawful associations under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the powers which the state government can exercise have been delegated to the respective District Magistrates (DMs) and Police Superintendents (SPs). The notification banning the Popular Front of India (PFI) under the stringent anti-terror law UAPA will be followed by a number of actions against the outfit, including seizure of its properties, freezing of bank accounts and a complete prohibition of its usual activities. The central government will also move a tribunal within 30 days from the date of the publication of the notification for adjudication of whether or not there is sufficient cause for declaring the association unlawful.
