Mining company Thriveni Earthmovers has bagged a contract worth Rs 31,428 crore from NTPC to develop and operate Talaipalli coal mine in Chhattisgarh alloted to the state-owned power giant. State-owned power giant NTPC on Friday said Ujjwal Kanti Bhattacharya has taken charge as its Director (Projects). "Before appointment as Director (Projects), NTPC, he has worked as MD and CEO (Bangladesh India Friendship Power Company Ltd), Executive Director (International Business Development) and Executive Director (Projects), NTPC," a company statement said. Bhattacharya joined NTPC in 1984 as engineering executive trainee, and was initially posted at NTPC Korba, which was then situated in Madhya Pradesh, the statement added. He is an Electrical Engineering Graduate from Jadavpur University, Kolkata. He has also completed his PG Diploma in Management from MDI, Gurgaon. Bhattacharya started his career in greenfield project construction, followed by working in the different areas including power plant operation & maintenance and technical services at NTPC Farakka (1,600 MW) in West Bengal. After serving various departments in Farakka, he moved to NTPC Talcher Thermal (450 MW) .

NTPC on Tuesday said its power generation including of joint ventures and subsidiaries rose 13.3 per cent to 26.73 billion units in July as compared to the preceding month. In June, the total power generation of the NTPC Group stood at 23.59 billion units (BU), a company statement said. NTPC Coal stations registered a growth of 5.6 per cent year-on- year with generation of 21.89 BU compared with 20.74 BU in July 2019. The Korba project (2,600 MW) in Chhattisgarh achieved over 100 per cent plant load factor or capacity utilisation last month. With a total installed capacity of 62,910 MW, the NTPC Group has 70 power stations comprising 24 coal, 7 combined cycle gas/liquid fuel, 1 hydro, 13 renewables along with 25 subsidiary & JV power stations.
