Quality education that values nationalism alone is 'meaningful': CM Yogi

Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Sunday said quality education that values culture, tradition and nationalism alone is 'meaningful'. He further said it was the responsibility of educational institutions to inform students about the government schemes that can help them achieve their goals. Adityanath was addressing the inaugural ceremony of a private school here. According to a press statement issued by the government, he said, "Quality education that values culture, tradition and nationality, alone is meaningful." Adityanath said when the whole world was battered by COVID-19, India came up with the new National Education Policy, which opened doors of possibilities. Hailing the Indian family system, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Sunday said the country will become powerful when the feeling of nationalism is awakened in every family and urged Sangh members to work towards ending "casteism, inequality and untouchability" in society. He said the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will take up the cause of environmental protection and called for encouraging people to join the campaign of planting "One tree in the name of the nation". "Till now, the Sangh has been mainly doing the task of nation-building through individual development. The effect of Sangh's efforts is now visible in various fields," he said. US Secretary of State Tony Blinken on Wednesday said authoritarianism and nationalism are on the rise around the world with governments becoming less transparent and losing the people's trust. In a major foreign policy speech after becoming the top American diplomat, Blinken said the latest report 'Freedom in the World 2021' by Freedom House is "sobering". The report, which is an annual country-by-country assessment of political rights and civil liberties, downgraded the freedom scores of 73 countries, representing 75 per cent of the global population. Democracy has eroded in the United States as well, the report noted. While still considered 'free', the United States experienced further democratic decline during the final year of the Trump presidency, it said.
