Mumbai logs 129 new Covid-19 cases, no death; active tally at 881

Mumbai on Tuesday recorded 129 new cases of coronavirus, taking the tally of infections to 11,51,582, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation said. The count of recoveries rose to 11,30,965 after 155 patients recovered from the infection during the day, while the toll remained unchanged at 19,736, the official said. The city's daily tally of cases has crossed the 100 mark on the fifth consecutive day. On Monday, Mumbai had logged 111 new COVID-19 cases and a single fatality. As per a bulletin issued by the civic body, 4,146 swab samples were tested in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of tests done so far to 1,83,65,681. With a recovery rate of 98.2 per cent, Mumbai is now left with 881 active cases, it stated. Of the latest cases, only eight patients were symptomatic, it said. The overall growth rate of cases in the city is 0.010 per cent for a period between October 4 and October 10, while the doubling rate was 7,390 days, the bulletin said.

Mumbai on Monday recorded 111 COVID-19 cases and one death, which took the tally in the city to 11,51,453 and toll to 19,736, a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official said. He said the recovery count rose by 65 and stood at 11,30,810, leaving the city with an active caseload of 907. Of the new cases, only 11 are symptomatic, which had taken the number of people hospitalised for the infection to 60, the official added. So far, 1,83,61,535 samples have been examined for coronavirus, including 4,009 in the last 24 hours, as per BMC data. The recovery rate is 98.2 per cent, while the overall growth rate between October 2 and 8 stands at 0.009 per cent, as per official data. The caseload doubling time is 7,781 days.

1 killed, 3 injured in high-pressure gas leak at Navi Mumbai power plant

A chief boiler supervisor was killed and three others injured on Sunday after gas leaked from a high-pressure booster pump at the gas turbine power station of the Maharashtra Power Generation Company at Uran in Navi Mumbai, officials said. Police had earlier said an explosion in the boiler pump of the unit, located 48 km from Mumbai, led to the casualties. A statement from the Maharashtra Power Generation Company (Mahagenco) said at about 1230 hrs, there was a gas leak from a high-pressure booster pump, while a 120 MW unit located nearby was operational at Uran. Police said the leak was akin to an explosion, which led to the casualties. A team of Vivek Dhumale, the deceased supervisor, boiler technician K K Patil and Vishnu Patil, a helper who is a contractual employee, was carrying out a routine inspection when the accident occurred, Mahagenco said. Mumbai on Sunday recorded 172 new cases of COVID-19 that raised the tally of infections to 11,51,342, an official from the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) said. The toll remained unchanged at 19,735, while the count of recoveries rose to 11,30,745 after 102 patients recovered from the infection in the last 24 hours, the official said. With a recovery rate of 98.2 per cent, the city currently has 862 active cases, he said. Of the latest cases, six patients are symptomatic, taking the total number of hospitalised persons to 63, the official said. At least 6,974 swab samples were tested in the city in the last 24 hours, taking the total number of tests conducted so far to 1,83,57,526, he said. The overall growth rate between October 2 and 8 now stands at 0.008 per cent, while doubling rate is 8,341 days, the official added.

A fire broke out on the 12th floor of a residential building in Mumbai's suburban Chembur area on Saturday afternoon, an official said. There were no reports of anyone getting injured in the incident at Rail View MIG Society located in New Tilak Nagar, the fire brigade official said. NCB seizes mephedrone worth more than Rs 120 cr from Mumbai, Gujarat

The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 60 kg mephedrone drug worth more than Rs 120 crore from Mumbai and Gujarat, and arrested six members of an inter-state drug cartel, including a former Air India pilot, a senior official said here on Friday. The action was taken based on specific inputs received by the Naval Intelligence unit at Jamnagar in Gujarat, said Sanjay Singh, Deputy Director General of the NCB in a press briefing here. "We have cracked a drug network spread across various states of the country and arrested six persons involved in the syndicate," he said. Following the tip-off, the officials from the NCB headquarters in Delhi and its Mumbai zonal unit conducted a raid at Jamnagar on Monday and seized 10 kg mephedrone, he said. The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has seized 60 kg mephedrone drug worth more than Rs 120 crore from Mumbai and Gujarat and arrested six persons, including a former Air India pilot, a senior official said on Friday. Mumbai sees 80 new Covid-19 cases, 1 death, 99 recoveries in a day

Mumbai on Thursday reported 80 COVID-19 cases and one death, which took the tally here to 11,50,908 and the toll to 19,734, a civic official said. The addition to the tally was below the 100-mark after two days, with Wednesday seeing 127 cases, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation official pointed out. Of the new cases, only three are symptomatic, the official added. The recovery count rose by 99 and touched 11,30,399, leaving the metropolis with an active caseload of 775, he said. As per BMC data, the recovery count stood at 98.2 per cent and the overall growth rate of cases between September 29 and October 5 was 0.009 per cent. So far, 1,83,40,080 coronavirus tests have been conducted in Mumbai, including 3,370 in the last 24 hours, lower than the 6,713 samples examined in the preceding 24-hour period. The caseload doubling time is 8,468 days, as per official data.

Five persons were killed and eight injured when a car crashed into an accident site and hit three stationary cars and an ambulance on the Bandra-Worli Sea Link here on Wednesday early morning, police said.
