Apeejay Surrendra raises Rs 300 cr for logistics, industrial parks biz

The Apeejay Surrendra Group on Thursday said it has raised Rs 300 crore through issuance of debentures for expansion of its logistics and industrial parks business. In a statement, the company said the Rs 300 crore fund has been raised through the Non-Convertible Debentures (NCD) route. The fund will fuel the ongoing expansion drive of Apeejay Surrendra Group's realty division Apeejay Real Estate. BPEA Credit, a leading private alternative investment firm in Asia, has invested in the NCD issued by the Apeejay Surrendra Group. Karan Paul, chairman of Apeejay Surrendra Group, said, "The government projection to reduce costs in the logistics sector by 10% in the next 5 years, unified policy, and a regulatory environment for end-to-end logistics services make the logistics and warehouse more and more promising. Need to reduce logistics cost in India to boost growth: Nitin Gadkari

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari has said there is need to reduce logistics costs in the country, which is higher than that of China, the US and European countries. The idea is to make waterways as a popular mode of transport for passengers and goods as this will help in bringing down the import cost of petrol and diesel, which is around Rs 16 lakh crore for the country annually, he said. "Our first priority is waterways, second railways, third road and lastly aviation. Govt working on one logistic law for all modes of transportation: Gadkari

The government is working on bringing a single logistic law for all modes of freight transportation to eradicate duplication of processes and simplify procedural requirements, Union minister Nitin Gadkari said on Friday. The Road Transport and Highways Minister further said the public-private partnership model should be encouraged for the development of air cargo infrastructure in the country. Warehousing, logistics space leasing down 9% across 7 cities in Jan-June

High inflation and global headwinds slowed down demand for warehousing and logistics spaces during January-June as leasing dipped 9 per cent annually across top seven cities, a report said. The US-based property consultant Vestian said in a report that the total absorption across the seven key cities -- Mumbai, Delhi-NCR, Bengaluru, Chennai, Hyderabad, Pune and Kolkata -- was recorded at 13.16 million square feet. "This depicted a decline of 9 per cent over the quantum of warehousing space leased in H1 2021," it pointed out. The consultant attributed the slowdown in the market to "increasing inflation and global headwinds from geopolitical conditions impacting the supply chain ecosystem and business environment." Delhi-NCR, Pune and Mumbai accounted for 56 per cent share of the total absorption during the year.
