Facing Opposition heat on 'Lalitgate', Government today made it clear that External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj is ready to make a statement in Parliament on allegations against her on facilitating Lalit Modi's travel documents. Talking to reporters after an all party meeting called by him on the eve on Monsoon beginning tomorrow, Parliamentary Affairs Minister M Venkaiah Naidu told reporters that Swaraj was keen to make a statement on the Lalit Modi issue. At the same time, Naidu rejected the demand for resignation being made by Congress. Opposition parties had been closing ranks against the government on several issues including the Vyapam scam in Madhya Pradesh and the Lalit Modi controversy in which names of Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and Swaraj have figured. Rajasthan Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje was today at the centre of a fresh controversy over reports suggesting that she had recommended former IPL chief Lalit Modi for a Padma award in 2007. While the CM's press advisor refused to comment on media reports, Rajasthan Sports Minister Gajendra Singh said, "I do not have any idea about it" on being asked whether Raje had sent such a recommendation. Lawyer returns ED summons to Lalit Modi, says 'not authorised to accept'

Lalit Modi's lawyer has returned the summons issued to the former IPL boss by the Enforcement Directorate, saying he was not authorised to receive them, the Central agency said today. Advocate Mehmood M Abdi, who represents Modi, in a statement said, "I have not recieved any such summons". "ED has Modi's address in the UK. They are required to serve him as per the procedure prescribed in law," Abdi said. The Central agency had last week issued summons to Modi in a money-laundering case registered against him here, seeking his presence at its office within three weeks. It was returned by his lawyer who said he was not authorised by Lalit Modi to receive it, an ED officer said today.
