In Bihar, KCR meets Nitish, Lalu, Tejashwi, calls for 'BJP mukt Bharat'

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Wednesday undertook a whirlwind tour of the Bihar capital where he met top political leaders in the state and also gave a call for BJP mukt Bharat. At a press conference that he addressed with his Bihar counterpart Nitish Kumar and Deputy CM Tejashwi Prasad Yadav by his side, the Telangana chief minister, who is popularly known as KCR, invoked the memory of Loknayak Jayaprakash Narayan's Kranti (revolution) against tanashahi (dictatorship) to stress the need for a united opposition to take on the BJP's hegemony. KCR, who also met RJD's ailing president Lalu Prasad later in the day, evaded a direct reply on questions about what role he saw in the fight against the BJP for the Congress, the main opposition party nationally with which his Telangana Rashtra Samiti (TRS) is also known to have been at loggerheads. The TRS chief, however, added that his endeavour was to build an alternative that was not a third front, but a main front to figh

With Nitish by his side, Telangana CM in Patna calls for 'BJP mukt Bharat'

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao, who met his counterpart in Bihar Nitish Kumar, as part of efforts to forge opposition unity, on Wednesday called for a BJP mukt Bharat, blaming the saffron party's government at the Centre for the many ills plaguing the country. At a press conference he addressed in the presence of Kumar, whom he fondly called "bade bhai" (big brother), Rao skirted questions about who will lead a united opposition and whether the Congress will be taken on board. Rao is one of the most vocal satraps opposed to the BJP. These things will be decided in due course. We are in no hurry, said Rao, in reply to questions about the prime ministerial candidate and the role of the Congress, to which his Telangana Rashtra Samiti is bitterly opposed. He blamed the Narendra Modi government for capital drain, a term he coined rhyming 'brain drain' to underscore that businesses were withdrawing their money from the country because of the Centre's policies. Rao also fla

Bihar CM Nitish shares stage with Telangana CM, lashes out at Modi govt

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar Wednesday lashed out at the Narendra Modi government in the Centre and criticised its excessive prachaar-prasaar (publicity) besides its alleged lack of sensitivity towards the needs of the states. Addressing a function here alongside K Chandrasekhar Rao, his Telangana counterpart, Kumar took a veiled dig at BJP which has undertaken an aggressive campaign to expand its base in the southern state. Your adversaries speak a lot against you. Little do they realize what stuff you are made of. You were the one whose single-minded struggle led to the creation of Telangana. The people will never desert you, Kumar, the de facto leader of the JD(U), said. His teaming with 'KCR', as Rao is popularly called, is being seen as an important step in the direction of achieving opposition unity. Kumar's speech was preceded by KCR giving cheques of Rs 10 lakh each to five soldiers from the state who were killed in the stand-off with Chinese troops in Galwan valley o

Get-together of two daydreamers: Sushil Modi on Nitish Kumar-KCR meet

BJP leader Sushil Kumar Modi took a dig at Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and his Telangana counterpart K Chandrashekar Rao, saying their meeting scheduled for Wednesday is a "get-together of two daydreamers". Telangana Chief Minister Rao, popularly known as 'KCR', is scheduled to arrive in Patna on Wednesday and meet Kumar as both leaders aspire to build a united front against the BJP's hegemony. KCR will also be paying cheques of compensation to family members of soldiers who were killed in the stand-off with Chinese troops in the Galwan Valley in eastern Ladakh. Taking a swipe at the meeting, Modi said it is a meeting of two leaders who are losing their base in their respective states and "desiring to become prime minister of the country". "It is a meeting of two daydreamers who have no standing in front of Prime Minister Narendra Modi," the BJP leader told reporters. He dubbed the meeting as the "latest comedy show of opposition unity." Earlier this month, Nitish Kumar aga

People should take pledge to make 'BJP- mukt Bharat' in 2024, says KCR

Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekar Rao on Monday tore into the NDA government at the Centre saying people should take a pledge to make a "BJP-mukt Bharat" in 2024 even as he said a government of farmers will be coming at the national level in future. Speaking at a public meeting at Peddapalli, 165 km from here, Rao, popularly known as KCR, describing Prime Minister Narendra Modi as "Golmal PM", said whatever he and the Centre say are "blatant lies". "We all should take a pledge and be prepared to create BJP-mukt Bharat in 2024. We should march forward with that slogan. Then only we can save this country, otherwise there is no scope to save this nation," he said. Attacking the Telangana BJP president Bandi Sanjay, who recently landed in a controversy after a video purportedly showing him fetching the footwear of Union Home Minister Amit Shah when the latter came out of a temple here, Rao said there are some "sanyasis" who are very eager to carry footwear by pledging Telangana'

Telangana in debt trap despite Centre's support, alleges Amit Shah

Even after the Centre gave over Rs two lakh crore to Telangana, the state has plunged into a debt trap, Union Home Minister Amit Shah said on Sunday and claimed that the K Chandrasekhar Rao-led government was anti-farmer. Speaking at a public meeting at Munugode, about 85 km from here, where a by-poll is scheduled to be held later, Shah alleged that the TRS government is committing a sin by keeping the farmers away from PM Fasal Bhima Yojana and assured that if the BJP is voted to power in the next Assembly elections, it will ensure that every grain of paddy will be procured from farmers. "Despite over Rs 2 lakh crore help from Modi's government, Telangana has plunged into debt. I promise that if Rajagopal Reddy wins and the BJP is voted to power (in the next elections), Telangana will also be developed like any other state in the country," Shah said.
