Jill Biden calls on men to support women fighting for their rights

Jill Biden on Wednesday praised a group of women from around the world, including those who have been protesting against Iran's leaders, for showing courage while fighting for their rights and called on men to "be partners" with women and support them in their cause. "As much as we need women who are willing to speak up, we need more men who are willing to listen and act," the first lady said. "We need more men to hold each other accountable when their sisters are being hurt or left behind, she said at a White House ceremony for the 2023 recipients of the International Women of Courage Awards. "We need more men who nurture families, who feed and teach and mentor, who build safer communities. We need more men who know that caring, collaboration and kindness are signs of strength, not weakness. "Men, we need you to support the women who are fighting for their rights and to lift up those who have been silenced, she continued. Be partners, be partners with women. Become the men of ...

Ridiculous: Jill on Haley's mental competency test proposal for politicians

US First Lady Dr Jill Biden on Monday termed "ridiculous" a proposal from Republican presidential aspirant Nikki Haley that candidates over the age of 75 should undergo a mental competency test. "Ridiculous," Dr Biden told CNN in an interview when asked about such a proposal from Indian American Haley, who announced her presidential run on February 14. Haley's proposal has caught national attention, but she has been slammed by leaders in both the Republican and the Democratic parties. Haley, the two-term governor of South Carolina, is 51, while President Joe Biden would be 82 at the time of his inauguration in 2025 if he is re-elected in the November 2024 election. Biden, who is already the oldest president in the history of the United States, has not announced his 2024 decision yet, but is most likely to announce it soon. Leading Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is only a few years younger to Biden. In her presidential campaign so far, Haley has pitched for youth an

US first lady Jill Biden shares memories of 9/11 as wife, sister, more

When Jill Biden realised that terrorists had attacked America on September 11, 2001, her husband, Joe, wasn't the only loved one whose safety she worried about. Biden recalled being scared to death that her sister Bonny Jacobs, a United Airlines flight attendant, was on one of the four hijacked airplanes that were flown into New York's World Trade Center, the Pentagon and a Pennsylvania field, killing nearly 3,000 people. After learning that her sister was safe at her Pennsylvania home, I went straight to Bonny's house, Biden told The Associated Press on Saturday as she and her sister remembered that day. On Sunday, Jill Biden, now the first lady, will mark the 21st anniversary of the 9/11 attacks by delivering remarks at the Flight 93 National Memorial in Shanksville, Pennsylvania accompanied by Jacobs. The 40 passengers and crew aboard that United Airlines flight fought back against their hijackers, thwarting a feared attack on the US Capitol in Washington. I called Bonny to se
