Mithali Raj keeps options open for IPL - player or mentor or owning team

Former India captain Mithali Raj is keeping her options open for the women's IPL tournament slated next year -- player or mentor or even owning a team. The BCCI recently announced that the inaugural women's IPL will take place in March next year before the men's tournament. "I am keeping that role open, whether as a player or in a franchise in some way as a mentor," she told PTI in an interview on Tuesday. "But right now, nothing is clear, there are five teams...how they are going to do, whether it's a bidding or auction, so until there is some concrete information, I am keeping pretty much all things open," said Mithali, who retired from international cricket earlier this year. Asked if owning a team is an option, she said, "Maybe, yes". Mithali recently made her debut as a commentator and termed it an "interesting phase". "I am watching cricket from a very different optics. I still do feel the nerves if it's a tight game. I still have to cross that barrier of not feeling those

IPL teams need to submit list of retained players by Nov 15: Official

The 10 IPL franchises have been asked to submit their list of retained players by November 15, a senior official of a franchise said on Sunday. It is understood that BCCI has set the ball rolling for next edition of IPL and the mini-auction will be held in the third week of December in Bengaluru. It is also learnt that even the salary cap is likely to be increased from Rs 90 to Rs 95 crore for the next season. However at the mini-auction, the franchises can bid for players with the balance amount left after what they spent during the last mega auction and also with the amount they get after releasing the players they want to give back to the auction pool. It is expected that most franchises will keep 15 core players and release the rest for them to enter the auction with at least 10 crore, if not more. Punjab Kings and CSK have Rs 3.45 and Rs 2.95 crore left respectively after the last auction while Lucknow Super Giants had exhausted their full purse. Delhi Capitals, Mumbai India

Ben Stokes to decide on IPL '23 participation based on English calender

The advent of multiple T20 leagues might have led to a paradigm shift in priorities for some leading international cricketers but England Test captain Ben Stokes is very categorical that his participation in the 2023 IPL will depend on the national team's calender. Stokes, one of the world's leading all-rounders, has already called it quits in 50-over format, in order to strike a better work-life balance and nothing is more important for him than wearing the pristine whites. "It is a case of looking at schedules, looking ahead at what we have got coming up. But as I have made it very clear, Test cricket is at the forefront of my mind and all of my time decisions will be based around Test matches. "Now being the captain, I have the responsibility to do that," Stokes told PTI during a virtual interaction organized by 'Amazon Prime Video' on the occasion of the release of his documentary series 'Ben Stokes: Phoenix from the Ashes'.
