Lobera seeks first crown, Habas looks to keep knockout run going

Powerhouses Mumbai City FC and ATK Mohun Bagan will be locked in a heavyweight battle for the top prize when they face off in the final of the Indian Super League (ISL) here on Saturday. Both sides have won 12 games having recorded just four defeats in the league stages respectively. Mumbai City FC prevailed on both occasions against the Kolkata side in the league stages including the final league match which handed them the top finish and the Asian Champions League (ACL) berth. For Mumbai, this will be their first ever final, but this year the team looks more confident under coach Sergio Lobera, who had formed the side by roping in players suiting his style of play. Many of the Mumbai players have played a final before but ended on the losing side along with Lobera. While Mumbai have shown their dominance over ATK Mohun Bagan, coach Antonio Habas has been most successful coach in the finals. He has already tasted success twice and is on verge of creating history by winning the s

ISL semifinals: Goa and Mumbai play out 2-2 draw in first leg

FC Goa missed the chance to enter the second leg of the Indian Super League semifinals with an advantage as they squandered a lead twice in their 2-2 draw against Mumbai City FC here on Friday. Goa broke the deadlock through Igor Angulo's penalty (20') before his goal was cancelled out by Hugo Boumous (38'). The Gaurs then took the lead again through Saviour Gama (59') but Mourtada Fall (62') soon netted a vital equaliser to help the Islanders escape with a vital point. Mumbai keeper Amrinder Singh was called into action early on, making a routine save in the fifth minute. Jorge Ortiz's cutback found Gama whose effort was parried away for a corner. But, just moments after being denied a penalty, Goa were awarded one when Mandar Rao Dessai clipped Ortiz in the box. Angulo stepped up to take the spot-kick and sent Amrinder the wrong way to notch up his 13th goal of the season. The side to concede the most goals from set-pieces, Goa's weakness was exposed again as Boumous came back t

East Bengal and Odisha look to end ISL season on a high

Languishing at the bottom half of the table, both SC East Bengal and Odisha FC will look to end their campaign at the Indian Super League on a high when they clash at the GMC Stadium here on Saturday. While Odisha lie at the very bottom of the table, East Bengal haven't fared much better and are ninth. However, ending the season with a convincing win could provide some relief to both sets of long-suffering supporters. Robbie Fowler's side were always pegged down by the inability of their forwards to convert possession into goals. Bright Enobakhare remains the only striker to have netted this season and SCEB lie at the very bottom of the goals scored list. The club was also let down by the failure of their Indian forwards to fire. Despite boasting big names like Jeje Lalpekhlua, CK Vineeth and Balwant Singh, Fowler got zero shots on target from the trio. Odisha has had similar woes throughout the season. Except for Diego Mauricio, no other player stepped up in the goal scoring ...
