Machado's twin strike help NorthEast salvage 2-2 draw against Bengaluru

Luis Machado struck twice as NorthEast United salvaged a thrilling 2-2 draw against Bengaluru FC in an Indian Super League fixture here on Tuesday. Gerard Nus' men took an early lead through a fortuitous strike from Machado (4th) but Bengaluru hit back through Juanan (13th) and substitute Udanta Singh (70th). Just as the Blues looked set for a win, Machado (78th) struck again to ensure his team got a point. NEUFC got off to the best possible start when they scored in just the fourth minute. Rochharzela cut into the box and unleashed a shot at goal. His strike struck his teammate Machado and Bengaluru goalkeeper Gurpreet Singh Sandhu could only look on in despair as the ball looped in. But rather than get pegged down by the early goal, Bengaluru responded with a flurry of attacks and eventually found their equaliser as NEUFC's lead last just over ten minutes. A Rahul Bheke throw caused all sorts of chaos in the NEUFC box and it fell to Juanan, whose first-time shot found the back

ISL-7: Mumbai City aim to continue winning streak against Chennaiyin FC

A buoyant Mumbai City FC will be eyeing a fourth successive win when they take on former champions Chennaiyin FC in an Indian Super League game here on Wednesday. With momentum on their side, the Mumbai team will look to put it across a sceptical Chennaiyin. After a 1-0 win against FC Goa and a 3-0 rout of SC East Bengal, Sergio Lobera's men got the better of Odisha FC 2-0. As has been the case in their previous outings, the role of both their in-form strikers Adam Le Fondre and Bartholomew Ogbeche will be crucial again. Fondre is the leading goal-scorer for the club this season with three strikes to his credit and he would like to add to the tally. While Nigerian Ogbeche netted in the game against Odisha and would take confidence from that outing. If the two fire on all cylinders, it will get really tough for the Chennaiyin defence. The role of Mumbai's key mid-fielders Ahmed Jahouh, Cy Goddard as feeders will be as important as ever. The head coach also has multiple options to

ISL-7: NorthEast hold Blasters to 2-2 draw after late strike from Sylla

Substitute Idrissa Sylla equalised in the dying moments to help NorthEast United hold Kerala Blasters to a 2-2 draw in an Indian Super League game, here on Thursday. Goals from Sergio Cidoncha (5th minute) and Gary Hooper (45th) gave Kerala a 2-0 lead at the break. But Ghanaian striker Kwesi Appiah (51st) reduced the margin before Sylla's injury time equaliser enabled NorthEast to go home with a point in their kitty. After a minute's silence to honour late Diego Maradona, Kerala got off to a dream start with Cidoncha heading in a Seityasen free-kick in the 5th minute. The Spaniard's looped header was a thing of beauty no goalkeeper in the world could have saved that. Sahal Abdul Samad's absence had meant that Cidoncha was playing higher up and that strategy worked a treat. In the 23rd minute, Hooper fluffed a sitter when NorthEast's defense was caught off guard. Cidoncha, after receiving the ball from Hooper, squared it back to him, with the Englishman facing an open goal. Hoop

ISL: Kerala Blasters eye first win of season against NorthEast United FC

Kerala Blasters will look to notch up their maiden win of the season when they take on NorthEast United FC in the Indian Super League match here on Thursday. Kerala Blasters went down 0-1 to ATK Mohun Bagan in their opening match. They currently occupy the ninth spot, while North East side, that shocked Mumbai City FC in their opener and impressed many by their defensive resilience, are placed fourth on the points table. Kerala coach Kibu Vicuna said he is well aware of the challenge his side will have to overcome to earn the three points. "They played a very good match against Mumbai City and they are a very good team. For sure, they are going to be a strong team and a very tough challenge for us," Vicuna said on the eve of the match. On the other hand, Nus will back his defenders to continue their good run against a Kerala side that did not manage a single shot on target in their loss to ATK Mohun Bagan. "Kerala Blasters have one of the best squads in ISL. They are a tough tea

Stoppage time penalty hand Mumbai City FC win over FC Goa in ISL

Adam Le Fondre came to his side's rescue and scored from the spot in the stoppage time to hand Mumbai City FC a 1-0 win over hosts FC Goa in an Indian Super League match here on Wednesday. Sergio Lobera's men had played much of the match with a man-advantage after Redeem Tlang got a first-half red card. But some dogged defending from Goa and Mumbai's own lack of fluency looked to be taking the match to a draw. But then, at the stroke of the final whistle, Le Fondre stepped up and fired in a penalty to ensure that Lobera got the better of his former team. Lobera made three changes to the side that lost to NorthEast United. Bartholomew Ogbeche and Mohamad Rakip were dropped with Ahmed Jahouh suspended following his red card. Amey Ranawde, Cy Stephen Goddard and Mourtada Fall all came into the starting eleven. FC Goa coach Juan Ferrando named an attacking team. Left-back Saviour Gama was back in the side after a suspension while Tlang and Alberto Noguera were selected ahead of Princ

Anirudh Thapa's first minute goal sets up Chennai's win over Jamshedpur

India international Anirudh Thapa scored in the first minute to set up Chennaiyin FC's 2-1 win over Jamshedpur FC in an Indian Super League match here on Tuesday. Thapa's early strike coupled with a penalty goal from Esmael Goncalves (26th) ensured that Chennaiyin began their campaign with a win. Last season's golden boot winner Nerijus Valskis (37th) pulled one back but a string of misses ensured that Jamshedpur boss Owen Coyle started the season with a defeat against the team he managed last season. Thapa got the game off to an electrifying start, scoring in the very first minute. Rafael Crivellaro won the ball and found Goncalves on the right flank and his low cross was powered into the net by the India midfielder. The next few minutes made it evident what sort of a game this was going to be. Jamshedpur's English defender Peter Hartley wasted a golden opportunity to draw his team level in the seventh minute and headed a free-kick wide off the target. Three minutes later, Goncal
