Head coach Rahul Dravid has called for patience as the Indian team goes through a rebuilding phase for the next cycle of the T20 World Cup and the youngsters in the side get some experience. Dravid felt inexperience was one of the main reasons for India's 16-run defeat to Sri Lanka in the second T20I here. The former India captain pointed out that while the visitors had a pretty sorted playing XI, the hosts fielded a completely different side than the one which played the T20 World Cup less than two months back. "They (youngsters in the team) are very skilful, but as they are learning, it's a tough (job). It's not easy learning in international cricket and you have to learn on the job. So, we've got to have a little bit of patience with these guys," Dravid said at the post-match press conference on Thursday. Dravid said the team was in the rebuilding phase, given the "next cycle of the T20 (World Cup)" had started. He added that youngsters will be handled patiently and will continue

When the Indian team had descended in the national capital for a T20I against South Africa in June, Uttam Majumdar's phone rang and he was requested to visit Hotel ITC Maurya. At the other end of the call was his favourite ward, "apna baccha" (own kid), Ishan Kishan, asking him to come to the team hotel. "Ishan wanted me to come to hotel everyday, when he was not training, and work on his head position and body balance while facing the short ball from Anrich Nortje and Kagiso Rabada," Majumdar, who runs his own academy in Greater Noida, told PTI while savouring his ward's fastest ODI double hundred against Bangladesh. "The hotel room became an extended net area. At least for four to five days before that game, he would play the shadow pull. It was more about conditioning his mind and he scored 76 opening the batting," said Majumdar as he kept one eye on the TV set at his academy and other on the net session of the future Ishan Kishans. The short ball practice story is significant .
India lost a nail-bitter match in the first ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh by one wicket being played here at Shere Bangla National Stadium in Dhaka on Sunday
Skipper Rohit Sharma doesn't want to clutter things by "thinking too far ahead" about the ODI World Cup and said he and head coach Rahul Dravid have a "fair idea" of how they would approach the showpiece to be held in India in October-November next year. Asked if World Cup preparations start with the three-match ODI series against Bangladesh starting here on Sunday, Rohit made it clear that there is still time before his team can start thinking specifically about the marquee event. "Every time you play a game, its preparing for something. The World Cup is still 8-9 months (10 months) from now. We can't think so far ahead. We need to keep an eye on what we need to do as team," Rohit told mediapersons ahead of the first ODI. He said if he starts planning too early, it won't help but also made it clear that the team think-tank knows in which direction it needs to travel. "It is very, very important for us not to start thinking about so many things. Like we need to play this guy or tha

The Indian team on Tuesday morning suffered a massive scare as captain Rohit Sharma sustained a powerful blow on his forearm during an optional session ahead of India's T20 World Cup semi-final against England on Thursday. Rohit was taking customary throwdowns from S Raghu at the Indian net session when a short ball hit his right forearm and he was instantly in deep pain, leaving the nets immediately. Rohit tried a short arm pull and throwdowns being hurled at 150 plus speed from 18 yards climbed on him and he missed the shot by a split second. He left the session and after that a big ice pack was tied to his right arm but he looked desolate and in considerable pain even while watching the training from a distance sitting on the ice box. Mental conditioning coach Paddy Upton was seen talking to him for a considerable amount of time. At this point with 48 hours left for the game, the Indian medical team will definitely try its best to get him on the park unless there is a fracture
Star Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav on Sunday became the first Indian player to score 1,000 T20I runs in a calendar year.
He was not part of the T20 scheme of things for past one year but Mohammed Shami was "always ready" in his mind because of the communication between him and the team management. The veteran India seamer last played T20Is during the UAE global event, after which it was decided that he would only feature in Tests and ODIs. But Jasprit Bumrah's stress fracture of the back, an injury to Deepak Chahar, and Avesh Khan's loss of form forced the team management to call Shami back for the mega event. "It all depends on preparation, and the team management always tells you to get ready," Shami said in the mixed zone after India beat Bangladesh by five runs here on Wednesday. "As and when the team requires, you will get the call, is what we are always told. If you have seen my videos, I am never out of practice and I always continue with my training," the veteran of 200-plus Test wickets said. Cooling his heels since playing on the tour of England, Shami was called back for the twin T20 ser
