Star India batter Virat Kohli has been rested from the third and final T20 international against South Africa here on Tuesday. Following the series-clinching win in Guwahati on Sunday, Kohli flew to Mumbai on Monday morning. "He has been rested from the final T20I," said a BCCI official. After the final game against the Proteas, Kohli will link up with the squad in Mumbai from where the team is scheduled to leave for Australia on October 6 for the T20 World Cup. The former India captain smashed an unbeaten 49 off 28 balls on Sunday as India won the second T20I by 16 runs to take an unassailable lead in the three-match series. The last time Kohli was rested, from the away ODI and T20Is against the West Indies, questions were asked on the decision as he was going through a prolonged lean patch then. He took a month off the game and did not even touch his bat for the duration of the break, a first for Kohli in 10 years by his own admission. However, he is back to his best and has b

Skipper Rohit Sharma said the Indian team got to "learn a lot" while chasing a meagre target on a "tricky track" in the series-opener against South Africa. Suryakumar Yadav's unbeaten 50 off 33 balls got India over the line despite KL Rahul's struggles on a track where South Africa were left tottering at 9/5 at the start of the game on Wednesday. "The wicket was tricky. You learn a lot playing such a game. You understand what the team needs to do in tough conditions. It was nice to play a game like that," Rohit said at the post-match presentation ceremony. "We knew the bowlers will get something seeing grass on the pitch, but we didn't expected help for the full 20 overs." Rohit admitted that the pitch was a bit damp and that kept South Africa in the hunt despite a paltry score of 106/8. "It was damp. Both teams were in the contest and the team that played better won the game. We started well, got five wickets in quick time and that was the turning point. It was a perfect showcase

The Assam Cricket Association has put in place elaborate arrangements to minimise time-loss in the event of rain, including importing pitch covers, for the T20 International between India and South Africa on October 2, a senior official said. The last cricket match at Barsapara Stadium here between India and Sri Lanka in January 2020 was abandoned following heavy rainfall. Guwahati had experienced unprecedented rainfall in the middle of winter, and that is why the match in 2020 had to be eventually called off. The weather forecast for October 2 is clear, but the weather is not within the control of anyone. We have all arrangements in place in case there is rain on October 2, ACA secretary Devajit Saikia told PTI. The ACA has imported two extremely lightweight pitch covers from the US, he said. It already has around 20 covers at its disposal. These imported covers ensure that water or moisture does not seep into the pitch, Saikia said. He said the ground had been handed over to th
