Mandhana sizzles as India qualify for Women's T20 World Cup semifinals

Vice-captain Smriti Mandhana stood out with a career-best 56-ball 87 as India entered the semifinals of the Women's T20 World Cup with a five-run win over Ireland in a rain-affected match here on Monday. On a surface that was far from ideal for batting and where most struggled to force the pace, Mandhana led by example with nine delectable fours and three sixes to help India reach 155 for six in the stipulated 20 overs. In reply, Ireland got off to a disastrous start as opener Amy Hunter (1) was run out before Renuka Singh bowled Orla Prendergast for nought. Reeling at 2/1 in the very first over, Ireland recovered to reach 54 for two in the ninth over, when the heavens opened up and forced the players inside. Play did not resume thereafter. At that point, Ireland needed need 102 runs in 70 balls and were five runs behind the Duckworth/Lewis par score of 59, paving the way for India's victory. When the game was interrupted, Gaby Lewis and skipper Laura Delany were batting on 32 and

Ind vs Aus Test series: Head may replace Warner in Delhi Test, say reports

Smarting from a humiliating defeat in the series-opening first Test against India in Nagpur, Australia may replace struggling David Warner with off-spin all-rounder Travis Head in the second match in New Delhi starting February 17, Australian media reported on Sunday. Australia's aspiration to win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy suffered a big blow after the visitors lost the Nagpur Test by an innings and 132 runs inside three days on Saturday. Seasoned opener Warner's poor form in the subcontinent continued as he got out for 1 and 10 in the two innings as Australia struggled to get a good start and were bowled out for 91 in the second essay, their lowest total in India. "Sources close to the Australian team confirmed those discussions were continuing after Warner's double failure in the first Test," reported 'Sydney Morning Herald'. It further added that left-arm finger spinner Matt Kuhnemann also has a "chance" to make his Test debut in New Delhi after being summoned to India as a ...

X factor drops, mediocrity retained: Prasad on India's selection calls

Former pacer Venkatesh Prasad has criticised the exclusion of Ishan Kishan from India's playing eleven for the first ODI against Sri Lanka, saying "there is no way you drop a player for scoring a double hundred". Ahead of the first ODI against Sri Lanka on Tuesday, India skipper Rohit Sharma made it clear that he will open alongside Shubman Gill and not Kishan, who scored a double hundred in his last innings in the 50-over format. "Think fair would have been to give chance to a man who scored a double hundred in India's last ODI, and in a series where India lost two games and the series. "Have all the time in the world for Gill, but no way you drop a player for scoring a double ton," Prasad said in a series of tweets. Prasad, who played 33 Tests and 161 ODIs for India, also feels that mediocrity is being preferred over "x-factor" in the current setup. "There is a reason we have underperformed in Limited overs cricket. Constant chopping changing and a guy who does brilliantly and i
