Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani demands SIT probe into IITB student's death

Congress MLA and Dalit leader Jignesh Mevani on Thursday demanded probe by a Special Investigation Team (SIT) into the death of a student of the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay to find out whether it was a case of murder, caste discrimination or ragging. After meeting the Ahmedabad-based family members of Darshan Solanki (18), who allegedly committed suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of a IIT hostel building on Sunday, Mevani said the Dalit community suspects it to be a case of murder, caste discrimination or ragging. The Congress leader from Gujarat said the Dalit community has given a call for a nationwide candle march on February 19 in support of Solanki, who was a first-year student of BTech (chemical) course. IIT Guwahati, Bombay, European partners building water quality sensor

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati and Bombay in collaboration with European universities are working towards building a low-cost technology to check the quality of potable and other water in India. The LOTUS Indo-European project, an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology and the European Commission, is aimed at providing solutions for issues related to the quality of water supplied across Indian households and elsewhere. A core element of the LOTUS project is a novel water quality sensor that builds on previous work done at Ecole Polytechnique, Paris, France. The sensor was further developed during the project by researchers at Universit Gustave Eiffel in collaboration with IIT Guwahati and the SME EGM, Sophia Antipolis, France. Maruti Suzuki joins hands with IIT Bombay to drive innovation programmes

Maruti Suzuki India on Thursday said it has partnered with Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay to drive innovation programmes for startups. The auto major said it has inked a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Society for Innovation & Entrepreneurship (SINE), IIT Bombay to expand the reach of its innovation programs for startups. As part of the three-year MoU, SINE will support in outreach and incubation of potential startups who can be part of Maruti Suzuki's innovation programs, it added. As part of the initiative, Maruti Suzuki and SINE will jointly shortlist startups for some of the complex business problems identified by the company. They will together screen applications, organise workshops with mentors, industry experts and investors. "Our efforts to engage startups aligns with Prime Minister's mantra of 'Sabka Prayas' to make India a global manufacturing hub. Our tie-up with IIT Bombay is an effort in this direction," Maruti Suzuki India Managing Director & CEO .

JEE-Advanced toppers continue to head to IIT Bombay, Computer Sc top choice

Sixty-nine of the top 100 JEE-Advanced rank-holders have secured a seat in the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay, continuing the trend of past several years. Of these, 68 have chosen Computer Science Engineering while one has opted for "Engineering Physics". According to statistics available with the Joint Seat Allocation Authority (JoSAA), 93 top candidates had chosen IIT Bombay as their first preference, and 69 of them made the cut in the first round of seat allocation for the IITs. Twenty-eight candidates among the top 100 have got admission in IIT Delhi and three in IIT Madras. Last year, 62 of the top 100 Joint Entrance Exam-JEE (Advanced) rank-holders got into IIT-Mumbai, up from 58 in 2020. Sixty-two candidates among the top 100 had joined IIT Bombay in 2019 while the number was 59 in 2018.
