Eight people, including a woman staying in a hotel were killed in a midnight fire that originated from an electric bike showroom located below, in Secunderabad area here. Seven others were injured and they were rushed to various hospitals, police said on Monday. Most of the victims were asphyxiated. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Telangana Minister K T Ramarao condoled the loss of lives and announced ex-gratia on behalf of the Centre and the state government, respectively. The fire and smoke from the showroom engulfed Hotel Ruby Pride situated above the showroom killing the victims. "It appears there are 23 rooms in all the four floors in the hotel. The smoke traversed through the staircase from the bottom up to the top floor and completely engulfed all floors." Hyderabad-based digital marketing solutions firm Brightcom has decided to call of its deal to acquire MediaMint for Rs 566 crore and will now go for a strategic alliance with the latter. In December 2022, the Brightcom Group had entered into an agreement to acquire digital consulting firm MediaMint for Rs 566 crore in a cash and stock deal. "Brightcom and MediaMint have jointly decided to change their proposed transaction from acquisition to a possible strategic alliance and provide back-end services to Brightcom's future acquisitions. In this context, they have cancelled the definitive share purchase agreement that was entered into on December 07, 2021," a regulatory filing stated. Traffic jams and water-logging was reported at several places in Hyderabad on Wednesday evening following heavy rain.
