IndiGo and GoAir have carried out "visual inspections" of a total of 50 Pratt & Whitney engines powering their A320 neo aircraft in the last fortnight but no abnormalities were detected, a senior official said today. The visual inspections were done after US regulator FAA issued an airworthiness directive on June 26 to check for possible engine fan hub damage of certain P&W engines. IndiGo and GoAir, operating A320 neo fleet with P&W engines, have been facing engine issues in these aircraft that even forced grounding of many planes. A senior official at the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) said no abnormalities were found during visual inspection of a total of 50 affected P&W engines. "In compliance with AD (Airworthiness Directive), IndiGo has carried out one time inspection of 34 affected engines and GoAir carried out inspection on 16 affected engines. "No abnormality has been observed with these engines fitted on A320 neos being operated by Indigo and ...

The delayed delivery of Pratt & Whitney engine-powered Airbus A320 Neo planes along with regulatory approvals has affected GoAir's plans for international operations, which are expected to commence only early next year, an airline source said. The Wadia group-promoted budget airline had received government's nod to go overseas in August last year with approvals to fly to nine international markets - China, Vietnam, Saudi Arabia, Iran, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Maldives and Qatar. "The whole thing is delayed because of the delay in deliveries of aircraft due to Pratt and Whitney (P&W) engine challenges," a senior official of the airline told PTI. He was, however, quick to add that they are "now getting a whole lot of deliveries and the P&W engine issues have also been sorted out." The Mumbai-based airline had last week announced the induction of four A320s in its fleet, which has now grown to 31 aircraft. GoAir was aiming to have 37 planes in ...

GoAir plans to launch its overseas operations with flights from Mumbai to Phuket and Male (Maldives) in the winter schedule.GoAir became eligible to launch international services last year when it inducted 20th aircraft in its fleet. However launch of new destinations has been postponed because of delays in deliveries of Airbus A320neo planes.GoAir has 23 Airbus A320 planes including five A320neo aircraft. The airline is expecting two planes by October and is expected to firm up its overseas plans by then, say airline sources.A GoAir spokesperson did not respond to an email query on the topic. At present there is no direct flights from Phuket to India and Male is linked only to cities in South India and Delhi. Securing a slot at Mumbai airport could be easier given airport operator's preference for virgin international routes. "We have plans to start overseas operations from October this year," GoAir's managing director Jeh Wadia told PTI on Monday. Wadia said, initially, the ...
GoAir may partner with smaller airlines to link unserved towns as a part of government's regional connectivity plan. "We are looking at possibilities and we may team with regional airlines," GoAir CEO Wolfgang Prock-Schauer said today. Such a tie up would enable airlines to feed each others' network. The scheme allows participating airlines to code share with other carriers. Code shares are commercial agreements which allow airlines to sell tickets on each others' network. Prock-Schauer said GoAir was in preliminary discussions with regional operators but declined to name them or the nature of planned partnership. The government kicked off regional connectivity scheme in April opening up 31 new airports for scheduled traffic in the first phase. Low cost airlines SpiceJet will launch regional connectivity flights next month and IndiGo has ordered ATR aircraft to participate in the scheme. But unlike its rivals GoAir will stick to a single aircraft fleet of Airbus A320 and will not ...
