Seven children of a special school for the visually-impaired from south Mumbai were hospitalised on Tuesday following symptoms of food poisoning and fever, officials said. The children, in the age group of 11 to 18 years, were rushed to a civic-run hospital in Mumbai Central after they complained of fever, vomiting and abdominal pains at around 12.45 pm. They are students of Victoria Memorial School for the blind situated in Tardeo area. A civic official said five of the seven children taken to the casualty section of the hospital were above 12 years, while two others are younger. "Five children complained of vomiting and abdominal pains while two others are suffering from fever," an official said, adding all seven children are admitted to the hospital and their health is stable now. It is not yet clear whether they ate a common meal or otherwise. Further details are awaited.

Three boys died and 11 others are undergoing treatment in the government hospital following suspected food poisoning at a home for destitute in nearby Tirupur on Thursday, officials said. The boys had rice mixed with 'rasam' and laddu for dinner on Wednesday. Some of them vomited and had dysentery. On Thursday morning, they had breakfast and their condition deteriorated and some fell unconscious, officials said. As all of them were admitted to a private hospital and they were later shifted to government hospitals in Tirupur and Avinashi, they said. However, three boys aged between 8 and 13 years died at the hospital, while others are undergoing treatment, with three being admitted to Intensive Care Unit (ICU). Tirupur District Collector S Vineeth, who visited the hospital, said the samples were collected and sent for examination, following preliminary reports of food poisoning. Eleven people fell sick after consuming stale food during 'shraddh', a ritual performed to pay homage to a dead ancestor, in Madhya Pradesh's Khargone district, an official said on Monday. The incident took place on Sunday after 'kheer' (a sweet dish made of milk) was served to the people during the ritual in Saigon town. In the evening, 11 people including five women and two girls complained of vomiting and upset stomach. After preliminary treatment at Saigon health centre, they were referred to the district hospital, Dr Mayank Patidar from the medical facility said. The condition of all of them is stable now, he said. Out of the 11 people, a woman was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) as her blood pressure was low, the official said. The food department has collected the kheer sample for testing, he said. The official said it was suspected that the milk used in the kheer preparation had turned stale which resulted in food poisoning.
