Fire breaks out in Mumbai's Andheri suburb, damages 6 shops; no casualties

A fire broke out at a compound in Andheri suburb of Mumbai on Thursday and spread to six shops, officials said. There was no report of any casualty so far, they said. The blaze erupted at around 1.30 pm in Anees compound located on link road in Sakinaka area of Andheri (East), an official said. The fire was confined to six shops, he said. Five fire brigade vehicles were rushed to the spot and efforts were on to douse the blaze, the official said. The cause of the fire was not yet known.

A massive fire at a cloth manufacturing plant in central China's Henan province has killed at least 38 people and injured two others, local officials said on Tuesday, the latest fatal industrial accidents to hit the country in recent years. Forty-two people were injured in a fire in a Durga Puja Pandal here on Sunday evening, officials said. Allahabad HC pulls up state govt for lapses in Lucknow hotel fire case

The Allahabad High Court on Thursday pulled up the state government for alleged lapses in regulation of development and housing authorities, in connection with a PIL on a fire incident at a Lucknow hotel. The Lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court expressed dissatisfaction as the state's lawyer could not place proper replies to its queries in connection with the PIL.
