At least 3 killed, 44 injured after 6.8 magnitude quake jolts Afghanistan

The death toll stands at three after a powerful earthquake of magnitude 6.8 jolted Afghanistan on Tuesday, Khaama Press reported citing the Taliban-led Ministry of Public Health of Afghanistan.At least 44 people have been injured due to the quake, the strong tremors of which were also felt in Pakistan.However, the casualties may rise as the earthquake reported was powerful and felt in most parts of the country."There could be more casualties as the quake was so powerful in most parts of the country," including Badakhshan, Takhar, and Laghman provinces, Sharafat Zaman, a spokesperson for the public health ministry said to Khaama Press.Also, it is reported that the majority of fatalities and injuries occurred when people's homes' roofs fell in various regions of the nation. Furthermore, according to Shafiullah Rahimi, a spokesperson for the ministry in charge of disaster mitigation of the Taliban, two individuals died as a result of the earthquake in the province of Laghman, the Afghan .

2.8 magnitude earthquake hits Himachal's Kinnaur, no damage reported

A mild intensity earthquake of magnitude 2.8 -- with its epicentre in Himachal Pradesh's Kinnaur -- hit the state at 12:51 am on Wednesday, but no damage was reported, officials said. Earlier, tremors were felt in almost all parts of the state around 10:17 on Tuesday night following a 6.6 magnitude earthquake whose epicentre was in Afghanistan's Hindu Kush area at a depth of 156 km. People in Shimla, Mandi and several other places ran out of their houses in panic but no loss of life or property has been reported so far, the officials said. Tremors were felt in all the 12 districts of the state but no loss of life or damage to property has been reported, Special Secretary Disaster Management Sudesh Mokta had told The PTI. In the past 24 hours, more than 10 earthquakes were witnessed in India and the nearby region. Their magnitude was between three and four, he added.

An earthquake of 6.8 magnitudes shook parts of Pakistan on Tuesday, killing nine people and injuring over 160 others, local media reported. The epicentre of the earthquake was Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region, while its depth was 180 kilometres, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. Earthquake tremors were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Quetta, Peshawar, Kohat, Lakki Marwat, and other areas of the country. Strong tremors were also felt in Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sialkot, Kot Momin, Madh Ranjha, Chakwal, Kohat and in Gilgit-Baltistan areas, local media reported. Television footage showed panic-stricken citizens out on the streets. The earthquake killed nine people, including two women, and injured over 160 others as well as causing many buildings to collapse, authorities said, according to a Geo News report. A powerful earthquake of 6.8-magnitude jolted parts of Pakistan and Afghanistan on Tuesday, the country's meteorologicial department said, sparking panic and forcing residents to flee homes. The epicentre of the earthquake was Afghanistan's Hindu Kush region, while its depth was 180 kilometres, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department. The quake shocks were felt in Lahore, Islamabad, Peshawar, Jhelum, Sheikhupura, Swat, Noeshera, Multan, Swat, Shangla and other places, media reports said. Television footage showed panic-stricken citizens out on the streets from their homes and buildings, the Dawn newspaper reported. So far no loss to life or property has been reported. The quake not only jolted parts of Pakistan, but it was also felt in north India. Earthquakes are common in Pakistan. The deadliest quake hit the country in 2005, which killed more than 74,000 people.

Mild tremor of 3.2 magnitude felt in Gujarat's Kutch district, no casualty

A tremor of 3.2 magnitude was recorded in Gujarat's Kutch district on Monday morning, according to the Institute of Seismological Research (ISR). District authorities said no damage to life or property was reported. The tremor was recorded at 7:35 AM with its epicentre located around 10 km north-northeast (NNE) from Bhachau city in Kutch district, the ISR said in its latest update. Kutch district is located in a "very high risk" seismic zone, and the occurrence of mild tremors is a regular phenomenon. As per the Gujarat State Disaster Management Authority (GSDMA), the state faces a high earthquake risk and witnessed major incidents in 1819, 1845, 1847, 1848, 1864, 1903, 1938, 1956, and 2001. The 2001 Kutch earthquake was the third largest and second most destructive earthquake in India over the last two centuries, killing more than 13,800 people and leaving 1.67 lakh others injured.
