2020 Delhi riots: Court orders framing of charges against three accused

A court here has put three persons on trial for the charges of rioting, attempt to murder, dacoity, and allegedly attacking a man with a sword during the 2020 northeast Delhi riots. Additional Sessions Judge Pulastya Pramachala ordered the framing of charges against Vinay, Rahul, and Sourabh Sharma, who are currently on bail, saying the charges were prima facie made out against them. "It is well established that injured Jafar Jiya was assaulted with a sword on his head by the rioters and it is a matter of common knowledge that assaulting a person on his head with a sword can cause the death of that person, therefore, a case of attempt to murder is prima facie reflected against the accused persons, the court noted. While charging the accused for the offence of dacoity, the court also noted that an amount of Rs 5,000 was also robbed from the complainant by a mob. Delhi sees 615 new Covid cases in a day; test positivity rate at 5.25%

Delhi recorded 615 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.89 per cent and three more fatalities due to the viral disease on Tuesday, according to the city health department. With the fresh cases and fatalities, Delhi's COVID-19 tally has climbed to 19,38,048 and the death toll has shot up to 26,275, the department said in a bulletin. The fresh cases came out of 15,829 tests conducted to detect the infection on Monday, it said. Delhi had recorded 420 fresh Covid cases with a positivity rate of 5.25 per cent on Monday, while one person had succumbed to the disease. On Sunday, the city had reported 648 Covid cases with a positivity rate of 4.29 per cent, while five people had died due to the infection. On Saturday, it had logged 678 new Covid cases with a positivity rate of 3.98 per cent and two fatalities. The national capital witnessed a dip in the new COVID-19 cases with 420 fresh COVID cases recorded in the last 24 hours, according to a health bulletin by the Delhi government on Monday.The active cases stand in the city at 2,938 with a daily positivity rate of 5.25 per cent.
