Nitin Gadkari says planning electric highway between Delhi, Mumbai

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari on Monday said the government is planning to construct an electric highway between Delhi and Mumbai. He also urged heavy vehicle owners to use alternative fuels like ethanol, methanol and green hydrogen in order to curb pollution. Addressing an event organised by the Hydraulic Trailer Owners Association, the road transport and highways minister said the government is constructing tunnels worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore. "Our planning is to make electric highway from Delhi to Mumbai. Just like trolleybus, you can run trolleytrucks also," he said, without providing more details. A trolleybus is an electric bus that draws power from overhead wires. An electric highway generally refers to a road which supplies power to vehicles travelling on it, including through overhead power lines. Delhi records 280 new Covid cases, no new deaths; positivity rate at 4.2%

Delhi on Monday reported 280 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 4.21 per cent, according to health department data. No new deaths were logged. With the fresh infections and fatalities, Delhi's COVID-19 caseload climbed to 19,41,015 and the death toll stood at 26,284, the health department bulletin said. The fresh cases came out of 6,645 tests conducted the previous day, it said. The capital had on Sunday recorded 433 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 2.96 per cent and two deaths. On Saturday, it recorded 544 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 3.37 per cent and two fatalities. The capital recorded 531 cases with a positivity rate of 3.13 per cent and three fatalities on Friday. Of the 9,469 beds for COVID-19 patients in Delhi hospitals, only 131 were occupied on Monday. Electricity bills in Delhi go up with 4% rise in PPA cost: Report

The cost of electricity in Delhi has increased with hike in power purchase adjustment cost (PPAC), imposed by discoms on consumers, by 4 per cent from mid June, official sources said on Sunday. A power department official said the hike was made by the power distribution companies (discoms) after approval by the Delhi Electricity Regulatory Commission(DERC) due to increase in prices of fuel like coal and gas. No immediate reaction of DERC was available. The PPAC is a surcharge to compensate the discoms for variations in the market-driven fuel costs. It is applied as a surcharge on total energy cost and fixed charge component of an electricity bill, officials said. "The PPAC in Delhi has been increased by 4 per cent from June 11, according to the approval of the DERC," said an official source.
