Delhi logs 73 new Covid-19 infections, active case count stand at 386

Delhi logged 73 fresh Covid cases with a positivity rate of 0.90 per cent on Tuesday, according to data issued by the health department data here. No Covid-related fatality was reported, it said. The new cases were detected from 8,084 tests conducted the previous day, the department said in its latest bulletin. With the fresh cases, Delhi's COVID-19 tally has climbed to 20,03,119. The death toll remained unchanged at 26,501, it said. Delhi had recorded 33 fresh COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 1.23 per cent on Monday. The capital had on Sunday recorded 75 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 1.1 per cent. The city logged 71 COVID-19 cases with a positivity rate of 0.81 per cent on Saturday, while it had reported 95 infections with a positivity rate of 0.96 per cent and one death on Friday. Passengers from bird-hit Air India plane leave for Delhi via another flight

The passengers who were stranded here a day ago after a Delhi-bound Air India plane was forced to land at the Kannur International Airport due to a bird hit, finally left for the national capital on Tuesday aboard another aircraft of the airline. The flight with 135 passengers had originated from Kozhikode and landed in the Kannur airport before flying to Delhi. "A Delhi-bound Air India flight from Bengaluru was routed through Kannur to pick up the 61 stranded passengers," the airport SHO told PTI. They were sent on the flight from Bengaluru as the bird-hit aircraft was still undergoing fitness trials and the airline did not want to further delay the travel plans of the passengers, the officer said. While the bird-hit aircraft was undergoing repairs, Air India also kept open the option of routing a flight from Bengaluru to Delhi through Kannur, the officer said. SC bench to hear plea related to Delhi-Centre row over control of services

The Supreme Court on Tuesday said a five-judge Constitution bench would hear on November 9 the legal issue concerning the scope of legislative and executive powers of the Centre and Delhi government over control of services in the national capital. The five-judge bench headed by Justice D Y Chandrachud said it would commence hearing the matter on a day-to-day basis "List it on November 9, 2022 at 10:30 am," the bench also comprising Justices M R Shah, Krishna Murari, Hima Kohli and P S Narasimha said. Yamuna breaches danger mark in Delhi; evacuation alert in bordering areas

An evacuation alert has been declared for people living in the low-lying areas near the Yamuna banks in Delhi with the water level in the river rising to 206.11 metres, well above the danger mark of 205.33 metres and the highest this year so far, following incessant rains in the upper catchment areas, officials said on Tuesday. East Delhi District Magistrate Anil Banka said the evacuation alert was issued Tuesday morning after the water level crosses the 206-metre mark. "People living in low-lying areas near the riverbanks are being evacuated and shifted to higher grounds. Arrangements have been made for their stay at government schools and night shelters in nearby areas," he said. Announcements are being made to caution people about a further increase in the water level, Banka said. The low-lying areas near the river in Delhi are considered vulnerable to flooding. Ramlila celebrations: Traffic movement to be affected in parts of Delhi

The Delhi traffic police on Monday said vehicular movement may be affected in several areas across the national capital in the evening hours for the next 10 days in the wake of the Navratra and Ramlila celebrations. According to an advisory issued by the traffic police, Ramlila will be celebrated across Delhi from Monday to October 5 between 6 pm and 11 pm. There are 46 main venues where Ramlilas will be organized, which include Red Fort, Ramlila Maidan JLN Marg, Dakshinpuri, Sarojini Nagar, RK Puram Sector 5, Dwarka, Punjabi Bagh, Hari Nagar, Sultanpuri, Pitampura, Model Town, and Gandhi Nagar, the advisory said. In addition to the main venues, Ramlilas may also be organized by local residents, RWAs, etc. in various colonies, market areas and open grounds. Yamuna breaches warning mark in Delhi, likely to rise more in next 2 days

The water level in the Yamuna here breached the warning mark of 204.5 metres on Monday following heavy rain in the upper catchment areas and is expected to rise further in the next two days, officials said. The Delhi flood control room said the water level crossed the warning mark at 1 am on Monday and rose to 204.7 by 8 am. It reported a discharge rate of 2,95,212 cusecs at 6 am from the Hathnikund barrage in Haryana, which is the highest so far this monsoon season. The flow rate was 2,57,970 at 7 am. One cusec is equivalent to 28.32 litres per second. Normally, the flow rate at the Hathnikund barrage is 352 cusecs, but the discharge increases after heavy rainfall in the catchment areas. The water discharged from the barrage normally takes two to three days to reach the national capital. Authorities have not issued a flood alert yet. Amid a spurt in dengue cases in the national capital, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Saturday said a plan has been devised to combat the vector-borne disease. In coming days, several steps will be taken and school students will be involved in a big way in the efforts made to check the spread of dengue, he said. The chief minister said this after holding a meeting with senior officials of the health department, the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) and other departments. Delhi has registered a huge spurt in dengue cases in the last couple of weeks, raising the tally of the vector-borne disease to nearly 400 till September 17 this year. Delhi rains: From 49% deficit in September to 16% excess in just 24 hours

Delhi recorded more than half of the rainfall in September in just 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Friday, swinging from being rain deficient to rain surplus this month. The Safdarjung Observatory, Delhi's primary weather station, recorded 58.5 mm of precipitation against a normal of 108.5 mm between September 1 and September 22 (Thursday morning). It received 72 mm of rainfall in 24 hours ending 8:30 am on Friday, making it the first spell of heavy rain this month. From September 1 to September 23, the city received 130.5 mm of rain. Normally, Delhi records 125.5 mm of rainfall in September. The weather stations at Palam, Lodhi Road, Ridge Ayanagar and Pusa received 102 mm, 71.4 mm, 41.4 mm, 106.2 mm and 51 mm of rainfall between 8:30 am on Thursday and 8:30 am on Friday. Delhi records 77 new Covid-19 cases, no death; positivity rate at 0.74%

Delhi on Thursday recorded 77 fresh Covid cases with a positivity rate of 0.74 per cent, according to data shared by the health department here. The new cases were detected from 10,370 tests conducted the previous day, the department said in its latest bulletin, adding that no new coronavirus-related fatality was recorded. Officials said the Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) may lift the Rs 500 fine on not wearing masks at public places along with scaling down deployment of staff and equipment in hospitals in a phased manner with the city witnessing a steady decline in COVID-19 cases. The DDMA met here on Thursday to review the Covid situation in the national capital and conduct an assessment of dedicated resources deployed at hospitals to tackle coronavirus. The decisions taken in the meeting will come into force after a formal notification by the DDMA. Portion of road caves in, massive traffic snarls as rains pound Delhi

A portion of a road caved in as incessant spell of light to moderate rain drenched Delhi for the second consecutive day on Thursday leading to waterlogging and uprooting of trees that caused massive traffic snarls in many parts of the capital. The weather department has issued a 'yellow' alert for Friday, cautioning people about moderate rain at most places in the city. The continuous downpour through the day caused a chock-a-block situation on various intersections and key stretches of the city, sending the traffic haywire. The rains also led to a sharp spike in cab and autorickshaw fares, as they manned their vehicles through waterlogged roads and obstructions caused by uprooted trees. L-G orders inquiry into 'ghost' teachers scam in Delhi govt schools: Report

Delhi LG V K Saxena has ordered an internal inquiry into the alleged irregularities in engagement of guest teachers in AAP government schools and embezzlement of funds in payment of salaries to ghost teachers, LG office sources said on Thursday. The LG Secretariat has asked the Chief Secretary to advise Director (Education) to immediately verify the engagement, physical attendance, and withdrawal of salaries of all guest teachers engaged by the city government in its schools, they added. A status report has to be submitted within a month. "LG has observed that the instances of non-existent guest teachers and embezzlement of funds are of serious concern' and cannot occur without connivance of the Principals/Vice Principals/Accounts staff'," the note from the LG Secretariat to the Chief Secretary read. Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena on Thursday urged the Delhi High Court to restrain the Aam Aadmi Party and several of its leaders from levelling "false" allegations against him and his family, after they claimed that he was involved in a Rs 1,400 crore scam during his tenure as the Khadi and Village Industries Commission (KVIC) chairman. Delhi court grants bail to AAP MLA Amanatullah's close aide Hamid Ali Khan

A Delhi court on Wednesday granted bail to Aam Aadmi Party MLA Amanatullah Khan's close aide Hamid Ali Khan, who was arrested after a raid by the Anti-Corruption Branch last week. According to officials, an unlicensed weapon, Rs 12 lakh cash, and some cartridges were found in Ali's premises. Metropolitan Magistrate Snehil Sharma granted relief to Khan, saying the accused has been in custody since September 16, and no further recovery was effected from him.
