Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday announced that 100 special mohalla clinics for women will be opened in the national capital. Inaugurating four 'mahila special mohalla clinics', he said children below 12 years and women will get free of cost treatment at these facilities. The mohalla clinic system is one of the flagship initiatives of the Kejriwal government and it is aimed at boosting primary healthcare in the city. "Four mahila mohalla clinics, special clinics for women where gynaecological services, tests and medicines will be available free of cost for them and children under the age of 12 years, are being opened today," Kejriwal said. "In the first phase, 100 such clinics will be opened for women and children," he said, adding that doctors and staff at these facilities will be women. The Congress on Wednesday alleged a six-year delay and 68-per cent cost escalation in the construction of 3,024 flats for Economically Weaker Sections as part of a slum rehabilitation project in Kalkaji. The project will be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday evening. The in-situ slum rehabilitation in 376 Jhuggi Jhopri clusters is being undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority in line with the prime minister's vision to provide housing for all, a PMO statement said on Tuesday. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Wednesday directed Labour Minister Manish Sisodia to provide Rs 5,000 each as financial aid to labourers due to pollution-related ban on construction activities in the city. With pollution levels worsening, the Centre's air quality panel had on Saturday directed authorities to impose a ban on construction and demolition activities in Delhi-NCR, except in essential projects, and other curbs under the GRAP III. "Construction activities have been stopped across Delhi in view of pollution. I have directed Labour Minister, Sh Manish Sisodia, to give Rs 5000 pm as financial support to each construction worker during this period, when construction activities are not permitted," Kejriwal tweeted. The AAP government had also in the past provided financial help to registered construction workers in Delhi during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Income Tax Department has conducted searches against two major luxury watch sellers in Delhi as part of a tax evasion probe, officials said Tuesday. The sleuths launched the raids on Monday on the premises of Kapoor Watch Company and Johnson Company and their promoters on Monday, they said. Phone calls and email sent by PTI to the two companies did not elicit a response. The officials said the tax department looked at the account books, sales bills and other documents as part of the searches conducted to probe alleged tax evasion and charges of reported cash sale of watches that are worth a few lakhs. The two companies have showrooms in prominent Delhi markets and deal in several high-end watches, including that of foreign brands.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate 3,024 newly constructed Economically Weaker Section flats in Delhi as part of an in-situ slum rehabilitation project on Wednesday evening, his office has said. During the programme at Vigyan Bhawan here, the slum dwellers at Bhoomihin camp will also be handed over keys to the flats, thereby giving them the ownership and a sense of security, a PMO statement said. The in-situ slum rehabilitation in 376 Jhuggi Jhopri clusters is being undertaken by the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) in line with the prime minister's vision to provide housing for all, it said. More than 40 per cent of the 56.98 lakh domestic consumers did not opt for power subsidy provided by the Delhi government till the last date of application on October 31, officials said on Monday. While more than 34 lakh domestic consumers applied for power subsidy, those who could not opt for it will have another chance to do so in the billing cycle of next month, they said. A total of 22,81,900 (40 per cent) domestic consumers were yet to apply for the subsidy, officials said. The Delhi government has made changes in its free electricity scheme deciding to provide subsidy to only those domestic consumers who apply for it. Till Monday afternoon, 34.16 lakh applicants opted for the subsidy and the number may slightly increase by the end of the day, officials said. "It means that many consumers have willingly given up subsidy. Chances are also that some consumers could not apply for the subsidy due to various reasons," a Delhi government officer said.
