Delhi HC to hear Sharjeel Imam's plea for bail in sedition case on May 4

The Delhi High Court Monday said it will hear on May 4 a plea by JNU student Sharjeel Imam seeking bail in connection with a 2020 communal riots case involving allegations of sedition. The petition, which assails a January 24, 2022 order by the trial court dismissing his bail application, was listed for hearing before a bench of Justices Siddharth Mridul and Vikas Mahajan. The bench fixed the matter for hearing in May as the counsel for one of the parties was not available on Monday. On January 30, the court had sought to know the stand of the city police as to whether Imam's plea for bail could be remanded back to the trial court for adjudication as there was no ground mentioned in the lower court's order for rejecting the relief. The bench had said since section 124A (sedition) of the IPC has been kept in abeyance on the directions of the Supreme Court, it will have to examine the trial court's bail rejection order while keeping in mind the other penal sections applied against ..

Delhi govt 'misled' HC on transfer of schools, alleges L-G's office

Alleging that the Delhi government submitted "false" statements in the high court regarding the transfer of schools for children with special needs, Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena has directed the chief secretary to file an affidavit giving the "correct picture", his office said on Friday. The Supreme Court has dismissed a petition challenging the Delhi High Court order which had refused to advance the hearing of a plea by the Managing Committee of Delhi Waqf Board against the Archaeological Society of India (ASI) stopping namaz at the Mughal Mosque in the city's Mehrauli area. The apex court, however, requested the high court to take up the pending matter and decide it as expeditiously as possible. The Delhi High Court on Thursday sought the CBI's response to jailed former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia's bail plea in the excise policy scam case being probed by the CBI. Delhi HC dismisses Satyendar Jain's bail plea in money laundering case

The Delhi High Court on Thursday dismissed the bail plea of jailed former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain in a money laundering case being probed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED). The high court, while dismissing the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader's bail plea, said he is an influential person and may tamper with evidence. Jain, who was arrested on May 30 last year by the agency, is accused of having laundered money through four companies allegedly linked to him. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma also rejected the bail pleas of co-accused in the case -- Vaibhav Jain and Ankush Jain. The detailed order is awaited. The high court said there was no illegally or infirmity in the trial court's order by which bail pleas were dismissed. The three accused had challenged the trial court's November 17 last year order. Delhi High Court was informed on Monday that more than 200 children working as child labourers here have been rescued since January and further raids are underway. A bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad granted four weeks to the Delhi government counsel to file a further status report in the matter and listed it for hearing on May 4.
